Applying for a Biomedical Science as a Mature Student

    I'm 23 and I want to study Biomedical science (or general, but ideally Biomed) as a mature student.

    I see there's no formal exam and no interview, so the decision is based on your application and Leaving Certificate results.

    I got on okay in my Leaving, I came out with a B1 in Biology and I think I got a C1 in Maths but I was really just looking to pass and focus on my higher level subjects.
    I came out with around 420 points, which is a far cry from the 560+ of Biomedical Science.

    I've spent the last 3 years in a business degree of some vague description.
    I have a feeling that will hurt my application because frankly I've pr*cked about with college.
    But I'm really trying to rectify the situation.
    I've got a level 6 in Business at least.

    I see there's no limit on the number of applicants they accept.
    I'm well accustomed to college life and what it entails so I can't imagine I'll need to complete an introductory course.. Even though it might be no harm.
    But surely they can just turn you down, right?

    I know the process varies from college to college but what's the likelihood of being accepted? (I realise that's hard to judge)

    Honestly I'm just worried that I won't get in.
    I can only apply for one college because that's what offers the degree and that's within driving distance of my parents place.
    I'm also applying for the general science degree as that can lead to the biomed pathway but with a lot of hardship (very limited places and sought after specialisms, I have friends who are far more capable than I am who struggled).

    I know that they can't just accept everyone who applies, surely they can just deny you without giving a reason, but when there's no limit on the number of places allotted how do they decide/draw the line?
