Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How long do Littlewoods take for delivery do people know?

Mine was due the 9th, but got an email yesterday apologising for the delay. It has dispatched, but I assume it's stuck in some Brexit customs backlog

Can anyone tell me how to tell Siri to put on RTÉ radio one.... I can get it on through Apple Music on my phone but I’d rather just tell her!!!

It's funny - my OH got Siri to play Lyric FM on the kitchen HomePod, but she hasn't been able to get Radio 1 yet. Now I've just got Siri to play "RTE acute Radio 1, via TuneIn", so it must be down to, I don't know, accent, tone, intonation...?

It's probably down to how us Irish pronounce 'R' and the HomePod is set to a different English locale

Is Siri down for anyone at the moment? Keep saying “one sec”, “one moment” then “there seems to be a problem”. This is on my iPhone and HomePods since this afternoon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 604 ✭✭✭iniall

I've had that on the HomePods as well this morning, but I assumed it was down to 5 people being on Zoom at the same time breaking the broadband...

I think it must be down. I thought it was just my HomePods but it is my phone also. The Apple server status is green for Siri. I’ve fired them off an email.

Siri's not working for me on iPhone 11 Pro here.

Status pages rarely show outages as they happen, for whatever reason they take about an hour before they show anything's up :pac:

Siri only works for me when I'm talking to someone else (usually on a work call), and I say something random that gets misinterpreted as "Hey Siri". That hasn't happened on my last 3 work calls, so I thought something was wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,137 ✭✭✭notahappycamper

    Siri appears to be back.

Ordered on 26th of December only got it today. There was a delay.

Siri was down for me earlier too. Kept saying one sec, etc.

Anyone else have this problem? Whenever I say hey Siri call John, it always says ‘Did you mean John?’. I’m saying it as clear as possible but every time it happens.

Hmm I fear I’ll be seeing something similar. did you have to pay anything extra?

Got an automated phone call notifying me of a delay but with zero information. That was after an email the previous day saying it had “despatched” from the supplier. Logging into the account gives me zero information whatsoever. Shall be the last time I order from little woods. Should have just gone with Elara as I’ve bought there before and know what service to expect at least.

Mine took two weeks from littlewoods.

Tracking through the order process, they may be dropshipping them.

The latest update was released yesterday (14.4) with support for the new hand-off feature. You need to update your iPhone and HomePod mini for it to work.

Just tried it out and it’s really cool, as you move closer the HomePod display gets brighter and the haptics of the iPhone get stronger and faster.

It’s something I used a fair bit the old way but always felt it was hit and miss with detection. Hope this new method is more consistent. It’s solid so far and cool to use.

Only supported in the latest HomePod mini though, as the UWB chip is required.

I seen that alright. I updated both of mine last night and noticed no difference, didn’t realise you have to update the phone as well.

One HomePod mini arrived with me there, exactly two weeks after ordering two. why they decided to ship them separately I'll have no clue.

first I heard of my tracking updating was this morning at around 9:30 via email and an SMS. I'll assume I'll get the same again tomorrow for the second HomePod.

And the second one arrived on Tuesday this week. If you're looking for these in a hurry don't order from little woods. Problem now is I want to buy two more :pac:

Yeah wouldn’t be going with Littewoods again. I bought one from Curry’s in the UK pre Brexit and it came really quick. But that was via parcelmotel which is now gone essentially.

    Feckin Brexit.

Anyone experiencing occasional sound drop outs while listening to Today FM in the morning between 8-10am on the HomePod?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,552 ✭✭✭Leftwaffe

Is the definitive list of commands for RTE radio stations? I ask HomePod to play Newstalk radio and it plays an English station I think. RTE Radio 1 will only play if I say “Radio 1 RTE” anything other than that forget it. A bit sh1te to be honest.

    I have it playing today fm, Dublin’s 98fm, fm104, spin1038 and RTÉ’s no problem.

However it’s mainly podcasts and music that it plays as they’re infinitely more interesting.

Mine will play them all no problem but the command has to be right. Normally get the “I’m sorry I can’t find this station” or something similar.

It can be a bit quirky regarding radio stations e.g if I want to play RTÉ Gold, to get it to work I just have to say “Hey Siri, play Gold”. Now sometimes it will play a song by some artist but most of the time the correct radio station. A variation on getting it to work is to say “Hey Siri, play gold radio”.

Same with google assistant to be fair. You gotta say “Sunshine one oh six point eight” or “newstalk fm on the radio”. There is just too many variables where the speaker will return something different.

Best way to get Irish stations and not rely only Siri Interpreting our accents:

    1. Download and buy IAP for Broadcasts (great Irish app) - https://apps.apple.com/ie/app/broadcasts/id1469995354

    2. Build shortcuts like in screen attached.

    543713.png

    3. "Hey Siri run newstalk* shortcut"

    * whatever name you want here, try avoid using the key phrase "play" as that will have Siri going through TuneIn or their own backend instead of running the shortcut.

If you do this shortcut approach you can even automate it using HomeKit automation to start playing every morning at 8am for example.

I've been having the same issue with my Echo Dot at those times with Today FM. I'm connecting to Tune In, I presume the Homepod is too.

I’d say it’s “peak time” for that station but you’d imagine the stream could cope as my broadband isn’t the issue.

I should receive delivery of my two Minis today. I already have two standard homepods (currently stereo paired with an AppleTV)

We have found over lockdown that we are using them a lot. So now the minis will be added to the mix !

Looks like Littlewoods have delisted the HomePod mini from the Irish site! Glad I bought 2 before they went. Kind of inevitable really since they’re not officially sold here :(

There are surely other places in Ireland doing them?

I’ve got two myself but could do with a third tbh.

AFAIK the Mini doesn't do Dolby Atmos, only the full sized HomePod's do. The mini's will do stereo pair only.

A friend of mine has ordered Apple.com/uk using An Post's AddressPal, not sure if he was stung for customs/imports etc. but it's probably the best shot.

Certainly will get done for VAT at 23% and An Post's €10 delivery charge. A full-size HomePod is also over the €150 limit for customs duty but I've no idea if wireless speakers attract such a charge.

Edit: it seems they might be under CN code 8518 which attracts 0%.

Edit edit: £279 = €323 +€10 delivery fee is €333 plus 23% VAT is €410. An extra €90 importing it this way. Better to wait a couple of months: a) get it in Curry's in NI and b) there might be a new one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

Just talked to him there. The only fee he paid was the €6.50 per item at address pal. He bought two minis and apple sent them separately.
