a season in the shade of Stade Marcel-Deflandre would be enough for any man.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

Glad to see he's keeping involved and having a crack at something new. Can't be near the same money on the table that he would have commanded pre-Covid.

Watching back the tribute clip and the drop goal in Clermont always stands out. I'm not sure I've seen a drop kick being struck more purely. Given the angle, he was probably around 50m when he struck the ball. I'm always amazed that the ball doesn't just drop over the bar but clears the entire in goal area and reaches around beyond the advertising hoardings.

No Dan Leavy in the Leinster A.

    Leinster Rugby ‘A’

    15. Michael Silvester
    14. Tommy O’Brien
    13. Jimmy O’Brien
    12. Ciarán Frawley
    11. Cian Kelleher
    10. Harry Byrne
    9. Hugh O’Sullivan
    1. Peter Dooley
    2. James Tracy
    3. Ciaran Parker
    4. Jack Dunne
    5. Charlie Ryan CAPTAIN
    6. Josh Murphy

    8. Max Deegan

    Replacements from:

    Tom Clarkson
    Niall Comerford
    Cormac Foley
    David Hawkshaw
    Joe McCarthy
    John McKee

    Martin Moloney
    Ross Molony

    Rowan Osborne
    Rhys Ruddock
    Andrew Smith
    Alex Soroka
    Liam Turner

Good to see Hawkshaw getting a chance. I thought he was still rehabbing.

Is that a full XV of replacements? As in will they have a first half team and a second half team I wonder

Wonder what's the matter with Leavy now. Anyway, that's a ridiculous starting backrow for an 'A' game. And Ruddock on the bench too.

No Furlong either. Guess at this stage he won't be ready for Ireland.

I was just about to post the same. some talent !

The fact Leavy was even mentioned as a potential returnee for this game should indicate he isn’t a million miles away from a return but just wasn’t there yet and wasn’t worth risking in an A game with the pro14 restart pretty close.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,215 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

I think H Byrne and Frawley will be our starting 10 and 12 for the opening league fixture. Bedding them in now is a good idea.

Probably the starting front row too.

    Jesus. Didn't see that coming.

I'll be honest....Super Rugby is not somewhere that I see a 35 year old Rob Kearney excelling. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Didn't take them long, the ripoff new jerseys are now online. Bought one last season to see what they are like.

Quality was identical at a fraction of the price, comes in Adidas plastic bag with swing tag attached just like in a shop.

Unlike the real thing the Leinster and Adidas logos are embroidered on too.

The Force didn't look great in their SA return. Kearney is a good signing for them. Also picked up Tevita Kuridran,a few decent experienced players for next year

Rob can be safe that hes not the oldest member of the squad :D

all they need now is for the honey badger to make a return

That's a pity - thought there was a rumour earlier in the week that he was available.

It's bizarre this isn't being streamed. The game is going to be recorded anyway by the teams.

Provinces dont want full games to be shown. Leinster rarely put up full game clips of their A/age grade teams and only put up short clips if that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,215 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Fairly heavy defeat for Leinster A in the end. Should have won that game on paper. Real shame there wasn't a stream to view.

With no crowds possible at the games it makes sense to stream them.

Connacht Vs Munster last week was streamed and is still available.

Munster Vs Connacht today is being streamed.

    "Change required"

English people demanding the competition changes as opposed to playing what's in front of them. Where have we heard that before.........

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,837 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

Leinster don't spend anything near what he French clubs spend.

English problem is they spend more than they can afford.

Why raise the salary cap when your club is neck deep in debt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,721 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

Did it to compete in Europe but had no problem picking up domestic titles where the rest of the teams abided by the cap.

    Riiiiiiiiight......

Very much not an uncommon opinion which has gathered significant traction since Saracens were relegated.

Let's be honest, there's a good chance that the overall salary bill of Leinster exceeds the Premiership cap. But it's going to be thereabouts and certainly not in the same ball park as French teams. People outside of Ireland have a wildly misguided view on how much an average player in Ireland earns.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

Last year's pro14 final is on tg4. 10 min in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

If you proportion the central contract spend by the IRFU, I'm fairly certain the provinces exceed the Premiership cap amount.

Ah yeah, blame everyone else for an English team breaking English rules. Makes sense. If it were a French or Irish team in Saracens place they wouldn’t get the same excuses thrown at them.

If you proportion the central contract spend by the IRFU, I'm fairly certain the provinces exceed the Premiership cap amount.

    In Euro
    €8.2m Cap
2 x Marquee Players with no limit but lets says they are €500k each

That's €9.2m, and then add in
    €600k academy credits
    €400k injury allowance
€80k per England International Call ups (say an average of 4 players per club = €320k)

    That's €10.6m.

Now factor in that English clubs can sign whoever the hell they want. Exeter have 60 players listed on their website. How many of them were developed locally and how many are bought in?

Saracens come from a city with a population of almost 9m people. That's ~2.3m more then then whole 32 counties of Ireland. They share that city with only 2/3 other clubs over the last decade. Again what limitations are they operating under with regard to Player development that say Leinster operate under?
