Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Terrible Tegral

Slates cupping badly, discoloured slates, porous slates, brittle slates, all on the one roof! Tegral man made (not natural slate) . My own Engineer tells me that they will not last another winter. Rep from Tegral called and took one slate away to carry out tests. 3 weeks later when I contacted the company again they informed me that they could Not carry out a test as the slate contained Aspestos! They then informed me by letter that the roof had Minor problems and "not a cause for concern" Wow!! I am now in the process of stripping the entire roof and will let Solicitors deal with this Company. Stay away from Tegral!!!

Sad to say about an Irish Company in the current climate.

    Hi,

I am looking for some advice regarding Tegral Slates which are losing their colour.

Like many others it seems, the slates on my house are losing colour they seem to be pealing and curling.
I built the house in 2006 ( direct labour) but the roof now looks like it is 50 years old !!

Can someone tell me how I should begin the process of trying to get Tegral to repair or replace the slates.
Do I contact the building provider who supplied the slates or go directly to Tegral.

Will they send a rep ?

Thanks in advance for your help

Problems with Tegral products seems to be larger than Tegral would like to admit, but admitting liability for a bad or inferior product will be the last thing they will do, my issue arose in may 2016 when I noticed the slates on my garage were loosing colour and pitting as these slates were only 8 years old at the time and Tegral guaranteeing there products for 20 years, I contacted Tegral about the matter, they sent me a form to fill in with all details when built, builders name and particular product and where they were bought and also some photographic images, after filling in all details I forwarded it to Tegral, waited for 2 months no reply, contacted Tegral and they said they never received the form, filled in second form they never got it either, then a third one which they eventually received, I was told I put wrong address on envelope, not possible as I addressed all 3 envelopes with same address and they received the third, waited for Rep to call, eventually called and he told me it was an issue with coating and that Tegral would re-coat at no cost to me, he had to do report and would get notice of re-coating very soon, now its oct 2017 and I am still waiting for Tegral to re-coat my slates, why would Tegral guarantee there products if they cant stand by them if there's an issue. if possible stay away from Tegral products because if there is a problem they will not sort it out.

I’m just starting this process. My slates are all pitted and eroded. I’ve contacted the building supply company that we bought the slates off. I’m hoping they will find our invoice/ receipt as I can’t find it. We have some slates left over that might be our saving grace. I would not accept a recoating if it was offered as I think this would eventually wear away too. We bought the slates in 2008 as well. How did you get on in the end???

Got Nowhere, ended up replacing the whole roof. Some battens were wet and rotted as the "slate" was porous. Tegral you should be ashamed.!

    Hi everyone
I have a tegral trutone plus roof that has been fitted for ten years now but started to break up 5 years ago(there are parts of slate literally falling to the ground off the roof)) and the coating is lifting off in other places. They eventually sent someone to inspect the roof and i got the impression he was looking for some reason that would compromise the warranty. now they are requesting I remove samples from my own roof so they can test them to see if the meet their specification. These are slates that are literally falling apart. considering this roof was more expensive than ordinary tiles I wish i never heard of tegral. The struggle to get them to uphold there warranty continues.

I was wondering if anyone on here would be interested in getting a group going(whats app) and fight them together

Although I don't have Tegral products on my roof I did have an issue with my slates. Issue occurred a few months after install. Neighbor using same product had same issues so it was a batch problem. Company involved paid to re-slate both roofs without resistance, so our experiences were good apart from the inconvenience.

Reading back over the thread all I was thinking about was, why doesn't everyone get together and tackle as a group. The weight in numbers approach. Otherwise it is easy for a company to fob individuals off and bat the issues away.

So +1 on the collaboration suggestion, but I'm not sure if this might contravene the charter (I saw a post previously re. can't use forum for rounding up the troops, although I don't understand why personally).

I got bounced between builder, their supplier, and finally Tegral.

Been going on 3 years now and still nothing, from them.

Ah Tegral... What a joke... Already been through the mill with this company. Slates warping or cupping as I'm told is the technical term and discolouration around the edges of the slates and ridges. Took three years but I came out triumphant.. Or so I thought. Had my complete roof reslated by them, they provided the contractor... And now I find myself back to square one again, slates have started cupping and discolouring again.. :(

How did you get Tegral to agree to re roof the house originally?

  • Registered Users Posts: 468 ✭✭247music

Keep after them. Refuse minor offers, get engineers report and then go the legal route. I just refused to accept anything else but a full reslate. At the end of the day once your roof was constructed to specifiction required at the year of construction then the fault is with their product.

Got engineers report and have gone the legal route. They have taking a slate to test but they didn't get back to me. Did yours I to court ? Can you pm me I'll give you my no to discuss.

Waiting for them to come out again , roof gone as bad again , repainting is a waists of time

  • Registered Users Posts: 468 ✭✭247music

Seems they have rebranded as "Cedral" now.. I hope this is not a way to dodge the poor quality history of the Tegral name and that it might effect any claims against Tegral.

We are having the same issue, with our slates curling, its been going on almost 10 years, We have issued proceedings and Tegral are going to fight it. they say the the slates are fitted incorrectly even though the slates at the back of my house are perfect. They are also saying time has run out on us even we started having this issue 4 years after the roof was fitted!! but they have been putting it on the long finger. They offered to paint the roof, however this is not going to flatten the slates. My engineer is saying that the issue is with the slates not the fitting or the ventilation. At a loss as to what to do.
