Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The only one I left was Facebook. Primarily because the whole point of it I though initially was to keep in touch with friends/family but it morphed into something else. i had thought it a 'private' place but that's the last thing it is now. I can't bear knowing people I don't really know, and having the option of checking out their Facebook profile and they mine. I just think that's all wrong somehow. I'd rather walk down the street and have people know only my face and not know my name, who I'm related to, who I'm friends with, what I do for a living, or anything about me at all, when they don't know me personally.

Recently got rid of them all bar messenger and reddit.... Found myself glued to facebook and the opinions around covid, and it just wasn't a positive anymore even before that. I live away from family so always liked it to see pics and stuff but then it dawned on me that if anything was that huge or important they could contact me directly. So much nicer being away from it.

I had to ditch Grinder recently. It was just a total sausage fest, could barely find any chicks at all. The ones I did find weren’t exactly my type.

    Oh well, lesson learned.

Boards.ie, I do use two or three forums that I find useful but everything else is is just a toxic mess of pointless arguments. the same topics brought up again an again on rotation with the same arguments with neither side giving any ground or reevaluating their position.
I see places like Facebook are mocked on here and while it truly is a dreadful platform for discussion boards is no better.

    I've never joined any.
Boards is actually the only place I post or read other than need sites.
Not because it's the best or even great, but there are some useful posts in various threads.

The useful forms are special interests forums. Places where people are passionate about shared experiences and not pushing an addenda but even within those forums the typical boards.ie toxic mentality does arise every once in a while.

I think Boards is far superior to Facebook. There is intelligence here. Hell, there's basic literacy here.

I could never buy into Twitter and only have an account to open links posted in the soccer forum.
FB for catching up on far away relatives.
    .G+ I’ve never used.
Yahoo , bebo etc never used.
Linked in opened an account and deleted it

I think one has to stay out of the Current Affairs forum. It's toxic.

The way Twitter works you can make it exactly what you want by following what you want. If it's ****e then you're following ****e.

    This 100%.
I only follow people who work in a field I'm interested in.
It's a fantastic resource to learn and also ask questions to people I'd usually never be able to.

If you follow random people and engage in heated debate, expect anything.

left facebook 4 or 5 years ago
it felt weird looking at news/photos of friends i hadn't seen in years and if it wasn't for social media I'd never speak too.
I thought at the time , I'd go back but I never felt the urge

Linkedin too , kinda was a harder choice to leave as "in theory" cos i'm self employed linkedin would be useful but the reality was it was fully of virtue signaling hypocrisy and bollocks. Random emails from agents about woefully unsuitable jobs.
The sheer number of tyrants I met over the years that now post on linkedin about the importance of mental health and work/life balance is laughable..

    Glad I left linkedin

All I have left is an insta I use for sport/fitness and a handful of friends. that and boards is enough for me

Facebook and years ago. Extremely disturbing & narsatic platform, just amazes me how popular it is. I was always fascinated at the 100"s sometimes 1000"s of alleged friends people had, at best studies show most people at best socially interact with 120 people on a regular basis. The messaging app was a nightmare also, install the app or don't get messages. Whilst I ignored the adverts, that too was becoming absurd. The most disturbing element of this platform however was unwarranted intrusion, unsolicited friends requests etc. The final straw was an individual I had a vague recollection of years previously and developed a disturbing mental illness (I was not aware of), somehow linked to me and started posting some horrendous stories (not relating to me) but people I knew and very alarming messages got through. Just a horrible platform but to be fair I belive FB may have cleaned up its act. The whole electoral conspiracy nonsense is exactly that, I doubt that many FB users take a blind bit of notice beyond idle gossip and tittle tattle.

I didn't see bans - just nasty attacks.

And they champion the IRA and Soviet tyranny. Absolute idiocy.

I would once have been considered a liberal - an absolute pinko in the US. I support same sex marriage, voted to repeal the 8th, I'm atheist, support immigration, and I am a nationalist when it comes to northern Ireland, plus I agree with there being a welfare state.

But if I question any dumb bandwagon that is politically/economically/socially/culturally to the left (and there is a lot to be questioned) or agree with more conservative views, oh the above is not enough. You either don't question anything, agree with it all, or you're a fascist - no in between.
They don't publicise the bans. But I was banned. Like you, I'm a staunch pro repeal, voted for SSM, atheist, pro unity referendum and a republican.
I made the mistake of not being a socialist and instead being a trump fan.

It's the worst one for me but there's a few handy aspects that stop me binning it.

I don't and have never liked the twitter interface. I'ts so confusing. But I do like you can follow 'famous' people and even get a reply from them from time to time. Usually telling me to eff off lol. Joking.

sometimes i do wonder about boards.ie

I was following a thread there. probably by a re reg but broke the droll of the site.

should have been left in situ.

Twitter - that kind of derangement isn't good to be exposed to.

It's become the logical conclusion of what happens when discourse becomes based on brevity and likes. A cesspit.

No, those threads tend to encourage them back so it just amplifies their rancour. Rarely would one be justified in keeping open.

Boards is at a stage where it really needs to figure out what it wants to be. Very few products or services are any good without knowing the answer to that.
