England dominated Sweden but wasteful in front of goal, they should have gone in 2-0 up at halftime. Against a better team they can't afford to miss so many. But their preparation really shows the value of set pieces in international football, as there's not enough team to create a fluid attacking unit, you are relying on individual talent or set pieces. Kane defo hasn't got the legs for extra time and England lacking firepower from the bench. They are not at the level of Belgium or France but in a once off game they could do it - assuming they overcome Croatia\Russia.

To get to final, 3rd fav, after Bel & Fra.

To win soccerballcup 2nd fav 3.6avg, there's only 5 teams left in it now.

It really is a pity the scheduling 'done' us out of a real England-Belgium group game with qualification on the line instead of the dead rubber we got... might have put an end to a lot of the arguments on this thread, one way or another!

Croatia are as long as 5/1 on Betfair.

Think they've got as a good a chance as any.

Croatia struggle and are made to look very ordinary against park the bus sides. Thats why they looked good in the group stages but so far have looked turgid in the knockout rounds against Denmark and Russia.

Not to forget also Portugal knocked them out in Euro 2016 with the same style of play.

Yeah, I'd been thinking about that - if the match schedule had Eng/Bel meeting first up then whoever lost would have been under huge pressure, would probably have made 4 changes to their starting XI and would still have needed something on MatchDay3. Thus wouldn't have been able to keep players fresh.
Or a draw between would have meant the group was fully alive on Matchday3 with the added wildcard that any winner between Panama/Tunisia on Matchday1 would have been top of the group with the impetus that builds.
Kinda like how the Spain/Portugal group developed because those two met in the first game.

I hope England go all the way, but I think Croatia will be too good.

Croatia have looked great against teams that are open at the back like Argentina but not so impressive against closed-up-shop type teams. A lot of this match depends on how England's backs are set-up and how much or not the wing-backs go forward.

One thing in Croatia's favour is that they have come back from a goal behind in the last 2 games. How England react to conceding first is something we can't be sure of (Belgium doesn't count).Croatia also brought their best game against the bigger sides an/or high stakes game (Nigeria and Argentina)

Croatia don't have as threatening an attack but they are battle hardened.Coming through edge of the seat knockout games . That counts for a lot in making a World Cup final. Argentina 90,Italy 94, France 98, Germany 02, France 06, Holland 10,Argentina 14. The other team to make the final (winner usually) has a much more comfortable route to the final.

England I don't believe are quite strong enough to win it out but it's been a very good tournament for them regardless. Their last 4 major tournaments were pretty hopeless.Croatia have brought their A game against sides like Nigeria and Argentina. They will be tired but there's enough experience to cope with that I reckon. I'd give them a hesitant vote to win.
