Importing 4x4 from UK/Northern Ireland

Hi all,

I am looking at buying a landcruiser jeep but find it very difficult to get value for money in the republic, all have very high mileage and not very well priced for their age. There are some fresh landcruisers on sale in the UK and less in the north, however they are all passenger models and I have no requirement for rear seats and dont want the extra cost relating to tax etc.
My questions are:
1. Since its a passenger 4x4 model that I am importing will I be hit for a high VRT even though will be converting it to a commercial vehicle once imported (i.e remove rear seats and black out rear windows)?
2. Can I do the conversion myself, remove the seats etc? or is there some regulation that does not allow this and has to be done by a professional body?

1. You’d be hit with vrt for passenger vehicle, instead of 13%(I think)
2. You need to get an engineers report for the conversion to say it’s been done properly
