New boots letting in

Bought a new pair of leather boots (biker/engineer) last week.

Wore them out for only the second time last Friday, and got caught in that absolutely torrential rain.

Boots let in water; seems on examination that it's likely to have seeped in via the stitching of the upper to the sole.

Wasn't a huge amount of dampness and it was very wet weather, but it was only a ten minute or so walk.

Is it reasonable of me to expect a new pair of boots to be way more resistant than this? Is it something I should take up with the retailer (online, to complicate things)?

Or should I just lash on the dubbin and get on with my life?
