Broadband Providers

Thinking of changing my Broadband home package to another provider who use the Fritzbox modem, I was told that their modem should be placed beside the main telephone socket which is downstairs. My present modem is upstairs and connected to my iMac (2008) computer by Ethernet. I am not sure if it will work for me. All help…
