Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Supposed to start tomorrow but in my local store (Ballyfermot), they were putting them out.

I just got some 2016 Beaujolais Villages, 75cl 2017 Rubicone Sangiovese and 2014 Autentica Reserva Rioja. There were others I wasn't interested in.

They only had about 12 cases out with a 50/50 mix of white and red. The sales assistant said they were overstock with an original price of between €20 - €40.

    Enjoy ;)

You do know that the whole point of Beaujolais is to drink it young within 2 years?

Not always, I've had other wines on special offer in Lidl that were well past their best. Blush wines are another that should be drunk young and an extra year can turn a good drinkable one to disgusting.

On the whole their wins are fine but not all bargains are what the seem.

My partner has just paid a visit to Lidl. We now have 17 bottles of mixed wine! There may be a few duds in there but for €5 each, we don't mind. It's like a lucky dip and part of the fun! We always have our ordinary wine stash to fall back on! ;)

Its very easy to spot the gems. If they had any left they would be on the now empty shelves.

No kidding, any decent wine anywhere in this country sells out really quickly.

Often when there is a red and a white from the same vineyard one will sell out completely leaving the other on the shelf. Sometimes its the red sometimes the white you never know but the one thing you can be sure of is the one that sold quickly was the gem.

Anyway whenever we get a decent bottle in Lidl and then go back for another there is never any left :(

I do not think those prices when I think of Lidl wine!

They have a special wine section for the decent wines. Some quite pricey ones there.

I do! I'm sure it will still be fine!

I bought one in Castleblayney on Tuesday, drank it that night and it was perfectly fine.

Took the advise given and took these as they were the last of their types left. Fingers crossed.

Saint Emilion Grand Cru for €5? FOMO is kicking in.

And, to other post, it's 1030 on Friday mornings for alcohol sales

Right so contrary to my earlier post, all LIDLs will be closed until about... checks watch... 2pm tomorrow.
Something to do with Brexit and Operation Yellowhammer, that sounds plausible.

Yeah I should be finished my shop by then and cleared the shelves...

Went to Navan this morning, not a €5 bottle to be seen and the one staff member I asked knew nothing of it.

Nothing in the Cork Togher store either - staff checked with the manager and apparently they're just not doing the promotion.

Was there at 10.30, if any €5 wine had been there, shelves would have been bare by time you arrived !!!!

Plenty in Tralee Edward St. Nothing terribly exciting as far as I could make out but still excellent value all the same so picked up a case load of various reds.

Whole shelf by the tills FULL in Stillorgan at lunchtime.
Nobody was buying any of them as they had no price on them, just said "SALE".
Confirmed with staff member they were all €5 so my wallet is a lot lighter now as is the display!

Just back from LIDL Cavan still some marked at €5 on the shelf. However I had read earlier that the Gigondas (a good Rhône red) was on sale. So I got a price check on it from the normal display (it was showing as 16.99). Pricecheck came up as €5 so I grabbed 6, happy camper. Seems some staff didn’t bother labelling them but the price is reduced at the till. Plenty more of it left for anyone close, or grab it from the normal section in any store and check price

None in Lidl smithfield either, I've asked the staff and he said they didn't receive the stock

Loads in Oranmore. I about 10-12 different ones. I got 10. No idea if any are any good. I googled a few and most are around the 9.99 mark anyway so still half price.

Only a choice of 3 in sallynoggin, not a bad choice. Argagonia, a Beaujolais and a saint emmilio..picked up a dozen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 633 ✭✭✭clevtrev

wifey picked up 3 bottles of Beaujolais 2016 in Nutgrove - will be going back with them tomorrow - 3 years old, not drinkable. also a few bottles of chardonnay and vinho Branco - wouldn't say they were ever worth any more than a fiver

Yeah googling the ones in my local Lidl suggested they were all originally around the tenner mark too.

Presume you mean the Beaujolais Villages, had a bottle this evening and thought it was really good, definitely far better than a €5 wine should be. Totally disagree with the notion that a Beaujolais Villages is good for only 2 years, I have had many that are 3 or more years old and have been excellent.

Just FYI the st Emilion one is €20 normal price, as in my lidl today. It’s a good bottle to have/drink/give! So I reckon if you see it get it! Also, note it’s 15%
