Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Couriers constantly delivering to wrong house

    Having an issue here and looking for some suggestions.

    The google maps for our road (a semi rural area) is quite poor. It doesn't show all the houses. If you switch to satellite mode it does, but on regular mode in only shows a handful.

    Anyway, couriers are entering our Eir code into google maps, and google is showing the correct location, however because houses are missing its making it look like our house is the 2nd house on the road, when we are actually the 3rd house.

    This is resulting in constant deliveries to the wrong house. It's happened about 10 times in the last few months, cheap stuff and some very expensive stuff.

    The neighbours are ok for the most part, but they're not super friendly. They also have 2 entrances to their house and parcels often get left at the entrance they don't use, so stuff can be sat there for days before anyone realises its there.

    We've tried including "3rd house" on address labels, I've stopped the regular drivers and explained to them the issue. But none of this seems to be helping.

    I thought about putting a bigger sign out for the house name, but it won't make a difference because they stop at the incorrect house before they get to ours to see any house name.

    Its just really frustrating.

    Look.... that poor delivery women never even made it out of Dublin, nevermind house 1,2 or 3.......:eek:

    You package is being held in Dublin port, and you may never see it again....:o

    Please be careful in future what your buying from these online sites.......:D

    Her parents have the same issue but it was resolved by sorting the location on google maps. So no hep to you I'm afraid.

    First they came for the socialists...

    Yes we looked in to that, but our location is correct. When you put in the eircode it puts the red marker right on our house. The problem is most of the other houses aren't there, so no idea how to go about getting that fixed at google.

    Go to eircode.ie and enter your eircode, then "show on map" and see if its correct. Then tell the couriers to use the eircode map.

    My friend lives on a sparsely populated road with no house numbers, and i found him this way.

    Yes its correct on eircode map. I can put instructions on the delivery to use eircode map, but I don't know how many drivers will actually end up doing it. Sure like I said, I've already spoken to some of the drivers directly and they still keep getting it wrong.

    TRy an email to the customer support address of the courier company, saying that eircode is the way to find you.

    I'd say its a pain all right, especially now.. Good luck.

    Is your neighbours house name/number clearly signed?

    If the delivery guys can see that they are at the wrong name/number they are more likely to keep going to find your house.

    Couriers dont care. You're not their customer, the retailer is, and the popularity of Ascendia/Fastway prove that even crap couriers won't lose contracts.


    OP I'd try using a parcel holding service if its that bad.

    Good luck with that. Couriers (well DPD) routinely leave our packages next door too. Even though it's a different address with a separate eircode.

    They'll take the handiest option regardless of how clear the location is.

    One smaller retailer I buy from frequently has changed to UPS from Fastway after repeated problems; and at least coincidentally Amazon stopped using Fastway to me after a few refunds for damaged product.

    One user whining won't change their mind but lots might.

    Also, start to claim for packages that dont get delivered to your door. Do a chargeback on your card/paypal.

    Unless they courier can prove they delivered it to you they havent a leg to stand on.

    On Google Maps you can click ‘Add a missing place’ and add your residence and the other homes on the road. Hopefully Google will process it. Also have a look at OpenStreet Maps and Apple Maps and see if you’re there too. Apple just rolled out a new map and OSM lets you edit yourself.

    The problem I have noticed for my house, and my parents house, is that that when drivers type in the eircode into google maps, it gives them the correct house so adding a missing place won't help.

    When google maps calculates the route it brings you to the closest point on a mapped section of road. For me, there is a lane with public right of way beside my neighbours house so google includes that in the route, which ends up bringing the courier down to their house where they then leave the package.

    In my parents case, google maps has incorrectly included the neighbours private driveway beside their house on its maps and so this gets included in routing bringing couriers into the wrong driveway. I submitted a correction to google maps for this a few months ago but haven't heard anything back.

    I have tried to demonstrate this with a random address on google maps. I wonder how many parcels for this eircode get delivered to the house in the middle...? Other than if couriers actually look at the end point on google maps, I don't see how this can be fixed.

    Have you tried to insert your house name in your postal address.

    Yes we always use the house name. I'm actually not sure how visible the neighbours house name is, but I doubt it would make a huge difference. They just look at google maps, see the pin on the second house visible and go straight there.

    If your giving all the information like Eircode, giving instruction to look at the Eircode map rather than google maps. There isn't much more you can do other than paint a large sign at the end of the road. Is there a house/family name at you gate?
    You could complain to the courier company may not do any good though.

    I submitted feedback/change request last September but I still see it labelled as "Pending - Google is verifying your edit" in my contributions.

    As an ex-delivery driver I will say the Eircode is crap and only works because google maps supports it.
    Most couriers use google maps as it has the ability to add multiple drops and arrange the route.
    The Eircode finder does not allow this.

    Yes, with Google and Apple maps, I’ve found Apple faster to respond however.
