Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey guys, quick question was wondering will my car pass NCT without tax and insurance displayed on the window? Bought car from North and have just taxed it and got my insurance disc but haven't got round to getting a holder yet

Ok thanks, what's the law like on actually displaying Tax, NCT and Insurance? I have a mate who doesnt have it displayed but has them in his glovebox.

You get a fine for non display for both? Why would you not display them assuming he has them?

Just when you thought this forum couldn't get any dumber.

OP is 100% trolling when he asks that question. No tax or insurance doesn't mean no discs displayed, it means having NONE of them.

Obviously it is required to have all items displayed at all times and you will likely fail the NCT if they notice it. In the glovebox, are you seriously having a laugh?

They won't hammer you for it if you have a good reason for it not being displayed such as it's in the mail. Otherwise yes it has to be displayed.

You definitely don't need the car to be taxed to NCT it - its one of the exceptions to having the car declared off the road, you're allowed drive it to and from the test centre with no tax - and to any mechanic to rectify an issue arising from an NCT.

there is a non-display offence separate from the not actually having them offence.
It's nothing to do with the NCT whether you have tax or insurance, but it may be to any Gard you meet on the way there.

good question, if it has you can get an NCT disc in lieu of it without a test.

Yeah you swap the remaining MOT for NCT to run out on the same date as when the MOT would run out.

    Why makes you think that?

I thought the person was genuine until the holder bit, yep troll. U can get car nctd without tax and insurance provided the person driving it is insured to drive it or get it towed there

    common sense?

No you won't, have brought loads of cars to the nct without tax or insurance displayed

    Why makes you think that?

Because it's perfectly legal to bring a car with no insurance or tax to be NCTed on the back of a truck, trailer, whatever. Its not the concern of the NCT how you got the vehicle there though, so why would they check tax and insurance as part of it?

It's funny that a NI/UK car can be driven in Ireland without display of any tax/insurance, as it's not a requirement in NI/UK to display them.

Tax, insurance and NCT disc are only required when car is being used on public place in ROI.
NCT is private ground, and there is no need for any of that.
Not only nothing needs to be displayed, its actually perfectly legal to bring untaxed, uninsured and unNCTed vehicle for NCT test. Obviously that's assuming that car is not using public roads to get there (i.e. towed on a towtruck).

Interesting thing as well is that when Irish car is being driven abroad, there's also no need to display tax, insurance or NCT.
