A bit too far, to be honest. :(

The air con isn't working. I presume that it is just a matter of getting the gas replaced. Is that something that needs the main dealer or would any garage be able to do it? Is a local garage likely to be cheaper than the main dealer?

    Thanks in advance.

Halfords do it for about €30 AFAIR

It's actually pretty easy to do yourself. There are videos on youtube that will talk you through the steps involved.

You need to know if there is a leak before trying a diy fill.
Halfords were offering a free check a couple of weeks ago. Worth checking if they
    are still doing it.

Do Halfords have the correct equipment to degas and regas or is it just the aerosols that they sell?

I had an issue with my car, and I chanced Halfords, it is a very basic ‘try and top it up and see’ approach.
    It didn’t work for me.
    I then brought it to
    https://autoaircon.ie/
And the system was tested, diagnostic performed, my fault was pointed out to me and I got it repaired. (This I could do myself)
I brought my car back to them and they were able to Regas and it worked perfectly afterwards.
    €30 to diagnose
€60 to pressure test it and gas, and ozone treatment.
I have no connection with these, but I would definitely recommend them.

Just the aerosols, no proper gauges or scales.

Excuse my ignorance, but does that mean it's a waste of time going to Halfords.

They have gauges and recharge canisters also.

An air con circuit has a certain weight of refrigerant in the system, and some can leak out over a period of time. The Halfords way is just to try and stick some gas in and see if it can replenish what it lost, but to get it done properly your system needs to be drained, and pressure tested to check for faults.
Halfords might work, but for roughly the same price your local air con specialist would be a better bet.

Thanks. Any recommendations for an air con specialist in north Wexford or carlow?

There's a mad in parkwest, auto air-con. I'd spin up if it was me. 50 blips. How bad.

Does he just do diagnostics or will he fix it if there is a problem?

Anyone know if any air con specialists in Donegal/Derry? My AC is blowing out warm air. I went to Halfords in Letterkenny and they tried topping up the system but it didn’t work and he advised me to bring it to dealer/specialist to get it looked at.

In my case he diagnosed a faulty compressor, I fitted a replacement and brought it back to him and he was able to Regas it.
He will leak check and diagnose faults. It will be up to you/ your Mechanic to repair afaik.

    So. I have a 2012 BMW 520d.
    My A,/C isn't working..
I use my ac all the time, bit it stopped working back in march.

So I had it regased by a main dealer, and it worked fine up until last week.
When it was re-gased I was told that a dye had been put in.

So obviously I have a leak in the system.
I'm looking for someone on or near cork city that can FIX my ac , ratherrl than just re-gas it.

    Recommendations ??

Re-gassing with a dye is generally the first step in detecting a leak. The step now is to inspect the system with a UV torch.

Bro in law has a 2013 Nissan Juke with the 1.5 dsl engine.
Has been having problems with the air con and the dlr he bought it from 2 yrs ago has had it back to check it out. First visit recharged it (€125) , improved for a few days then failed again: second visit they said they added dye to check for leaks; third visit they said it needed new condenser - €500 fitted.
Just wondering would it be feasible to have the system drained/ recharged by an air con specialist and fit the condenser as a DIY effort.
    Any opinions/ideas/suggestions appreciated.

Why go back to main dealer I'm guessing???

Get a decent indy or an a/c specialist.

    Compressor can be expensive.

I know, that's why I outlined what had already been done.

Who could be recommended to carry out the further work necessary

No, you're better off with a local specialist doing everything.

Merged with main thread for local recommendations.

I have a leak in the pipe from compressor to condenser apparently in VW golf 2015. Anyone know anyone to either repair or replace this pipe cheap enough? VW quoting EUR225+VAT for this pipe alone before any labour costs! Pref in Dub!

    Thanks

Source the part and use local garage. Make sure its not the high pressure switch for A/C as the golfs are famous for it. Had one myself and failed.

those f10's had a major issue with the condenser at launch. BMW launched a reinforced one for the LCI models.
IF you're lucky to be within warranty BMW will cover the cost.
I had same issue with mine and had it replaced. Cost €480 all in for the condenser and to have it full drained and regassed.
    Been working a treat since.

I rang loads of garages and they said they don’t have the part. In the air con place they said it’s the pipe so I assume it is? Prob leave it for the moment unless I can get it down cheap as I want to maybe get a new car next year
