How that company is still trading is beyond me.

With such a new coach it must be neglect with daily checks/servicing?

I’d be surprised if it’s anything else.

The tight timetabling requiring the coaches to be pushed quite hard and the quick turn around times cannot help very much - there is little downtime between runs so that must really stress the coaches.

Aircoach might not have such new coaches on the Belfast route but they're not operating extremely tight timetables with tight turn-around times, their fleet is an awful lot better nick as well with very little in the way of patch up jobs.

Do Dublin Coach do all their own maintenance or do Mutec or another Mercedes dealer do some of it for them on their Mercedes/Setra vehicles?

When I was at DC HQ in 2016 they were doing all their own work.

I would assume to keep any warranty on the Tourismo’s intact, they would have to be serviced by Mutec.

In saying that, services may have been delayed, the engines may have run out of coolant.

Based on the above article it certainly appears to be an engine related fire.

I’d have thought suppression equipment would have activated.

I’d be interested in seeing post fire photos and whether or not the wiring loom is damaged.

    According to this

The fire at Limerick was also a Dublin Coach vehicle.

That was probably another Citaro was it? 2nd fire in a few months.

Don't know - it could have been a coach since they also stop at UL on the 300.

I'd imagine they probably would have some agreement with Mutec, especially if they are leased (which they almost certainly are) - these days a lot of leases contain maintenance and spares contracts - certainly Irish Commercials do fleets this way most of the time.

This was Kildare village on October 31st, it speaks volumes of their organisation skills.

4 coaches there at the same time.

Probably one of them so that went up.

Just talking to a reliable source who is well in the know.

The fire in Limerick was a Mercedes Tourismo.

Almost certainly a 2014 one then I'd say - another pretty young vehicle!

    Disturbing when you consider it.

If the wiring loom is in anyway gone in both coaches then it's game over.

The first question they were probably asking the driver were the daily checks done including coolant/water.

Outside of DC, what is the rate of fires for Tourismo's of that age bracket in Ireland?

I haven't heard of any, that's not to say it hasn't happened.

I would be very surprised if they own all of their vehicles.

They would have had to have spent approx €12m in the last 3-4 years on the 30 Tourismos alone and I doubt they have that kind of money to pay upfront - their accounts certainly don't suggest they are spending that much on new vehicles.

I could quite believe most of the second hand stuff is owned though and perhaps all.

Yup and no maintenance contracts with mercedes either. They do most of their maintenance in house

Where do they get the money from to buy them, is their owner really that loaded?

I’d say a quick report from solocheck for about €3/4 will tell us the company is in the height of debt.

I’d say a quick report from solocheck for about €3/4 will tell us the company is in the height of debt.

There's a few free sites to get that kind of info

Citi Bus has 3.2m of assets and Last Bus 5.5m of assets as of September 2016, so it's quite possible that they do own the Tourismos up until 2016 - there is no more recent accounts so impossible to tell about the 2017 and 2018 ones.

However the accounts for Last Bus show a bank overdraft and long term loan of approx €3m and total liabilities of approx €5m, a debt to Capital ratio of 90% and a working capital of minus 2m.

Bear in mind these are almost 18 months out of date now though.

The coach on fire at UL last week was dublin coach

there have been previous incidents with this operator of coach fires and has there not been one of a large part of the coach falling on the road

    these issues are not speculation.

if such incidents happened to a plane a train or a ferry there would be an investigation by a state body.

will there be a similar investigation of coach related incidents by RSA?

Can anybody give us a rundown on vehicle fires on the fleet?

Two buses dumped in Corcoran's Portlaoise suffering from fires. When did these take place?
