Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Space - Would you go if you got the chance?

    Imagine... you've been randomly selected (even if you didn't enter...) to go on a Space trip to the International Space Station for 3 months.
    You'll be given basic training, but your job is just to report back on the NASA social media pages of your trip - other astronauts will shadow you and ensure all is ok.
    The invite has been privately communicated to you, so you can accept or you can decline and no one will ever know it was offered to you.

    Would you do it?
    Would the thoughts of being in a confined unit away from Earth freak you out?
    Would you just do it for the fame and try to live off any following income like books / appearances?
    Or would you politely decline, and leave it to a true Space nut to go?

    I'd be very wary, if anything probably scared, but would try and force myself to go. I think it would be an opportunity I simply couldn't turn down.

    3 hours on the ISS would be incredibly boring, never mind 3 months. Once you've gotten over initial buzz (which would be pretty immense) there'd be very little to do.

    Three months, no way. Couldn't do it. I reckon I have whatever the opposite of claustrophobia is, I just cannot stand being confined in controlled enclosed spaces for long periods of time. It would kill me to be stuck in one small environment for so long, without being able to get out and physically distance myself from it. Kind of ironic that I'd feel so enclosed when out in space, but realistically, that's what it would be like. Very boring. And very enclosed. I'd probably actually go proper bat**** crazy.

    Seriously though, it would be an unpaid position. Your current employers allows you paid leave however.
    If you're shrewd enough, you could probably do well from a whole rake of financial possibilities on your return.

    It would really be a battle to overcome it. I guess I wasn't sure if many others shared the same or would everyone just go 'hell yeah!! sign me up!

    You'd want to get on really well with your fellow travellers in space. I think I'm too introverted to spend that much time in close quarters with other people all the time.

    If it wasn't for that, I'd be off. I'm single and have no dependents and I love adventure.
