It's just good to see this thread created :)
Was pessimistic about the season going ahead, and while we'll have to see how it plays out, it's been a positive start.

    A positive start:pac:

Sky Sports games are Dolphins @ Patriots 6pm, and Bucs @ Saints 9.25pm. Plus the Thursday, late Sunday and Mondays obviously.
Also UK station Channel 5 will be co-showing the Monday night games live this season.

Great to see Brady and the Pats taking up 7 hours of the schedule, instead of the 3.5 they were previously limited to.

This may be the worst week one I’ve ever had picking games even though week one is normally iffy from past experience on here. Just looking at some of these picks I do wonder why I’ve picked some of them. Normally we’d have had some live ball to judge things on but obviously we haven’t had a pre season and I can see there being some dog rough play this weekend.

Great to be back and hopefully we get a full season.

So how long before a commentator calls the Washington football team by its old name ? Do we get out of week 1 ? I’m curious to see if the non blackout of games continues.

Yeah I'm on record here ranting and raving that there wasn't a hope it would happen. Glad to be wrong (although I think if handled better they could have had small crowds by now which would have been nice, and I'm still expecting a very bumpy season in terms of teams having outbreaks etc)

First touchdown of the season. Texans looking pretty decent so far. Obviously Chiefs showed how they can turn a game.

Poor form from the Chiefs fans booing the moment of silence. Proves that complaints were never about the flag or anthem.

Bedtime. I can't see Houston coming back.

Edwards-Helaire has had quite the debut. The Chiefs offense is frightening.

Texans had nothing once they got through their initial string of planned plays and Mahomes got a read of the defensive formations they were putting out.

Chiefs are as good as ever but the Texans could be in line for a big drop off this year if the Colts improve as expected and Titans keep up their standard of the back end of last year.

Caught the very end and I don’t know what the rest of the game was like but it was real football which is great. So let’s see how fast the condensed version is up on gamepass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,899 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Nice to see the Chiefs pick up where they left off. As if the offense didn't have enough weapons already, Clyde Edwards-Helaire is added to the mix and looks very good.

Very satisfying win and it was nice to have some real crowd noise (even if there was some booing pre-kick off).

I think the Texans will be ok this year. They play the NFC North and AFC North out of division and I think they'll pick up 5 or 6 wins there. In the division I expect they'll get 4 wins. The Jags are tanking, I'm not sure about the Colts improving under Rivers and I think the Titans are about the same level. With an extra wildcard they're a good shout to make the playoffs. After that they won't challenge.

The issue for the Texans and BoB will be the roster makeup next year. They only have a third and fifth round pick in 2021 and are in cap bother (OTC has them 7m over the cap next year as is stands). Like the Rams and Jalen Ramsey, the Texans screwed up on the Tunsil trade by not making a new contract a condition of the trade. Tunsil's cap hits after this year are 19m, 21m and 22m. They'll almost certainly have to restructure this. In 2022 Watson's mega cap hit kicks in and he'll count for 40m.

On last night, the 6 point turnaround on the Texans missed FG at the end of the first was a killer. The game felt over with a HT score of 17-7 vs. 14-10.

Felt like a mistake at the time to not go for the 4th Down. Even if it failed , it wouldn't have changed much, given how poorly their defense did.

Disagree with you on the strength of their out of division games. Out of the 8 games I'd only put them down as comfortably better than 2 of them. With the expanded playoffs they might squeak in at 9-7 but I'd expect an 8-8 season from them.

GM BoB is worse than coach BoB and that is a serious indictment.

Outside of the initial few scripted drives and initial confusion they caused Mahomes, I never felt the Chiefs were challenged at all, even when the game was tight. The Chiefs never seemed to need to take it out of 2nd gear.

Idiots that would go to a game during a pandemic are the same type that would boo/shout at players linking arms in a moment of unity. It was so awkward seeing the players when they realised what was happening, especially Mahomes.

I'm not going to pretend that it wouldn't happen at most stadiums but it is extra ironic in this case when the same fans booing are the ones that shout their own words over the anthem at every home game.

There is potential that we could lose a game this weekend.

The air quality in Santa Clara is steadily getting worse due to all the fires and it is creeping towards the level where they won't be allowed to play. It can change quickly enough dependent on wind direction but is going in the wrong direction at this point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,338 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Miles sanders and derek Barnett have been ruled out for the eagles against Washington tomorrow. I mean of course they are because the eagles can’t keep players healthy. Miles sanders being out is a big blow.

Oh and lane Johnson is a doubt. Haha oh it could be a long evening if Lane Johnson doesn’t start.

Well it might be a roofed stadium but it’s not air tight and the air quality in California is awful. I mean the pictures are frightening.

Fox and CBS pre game shows are live and in studios together if a little spread out. It’s a small thing but it helps to make the opening weekend a bit more like normal. I understand why people aren’t in studios and that’s their choice but it’s just a nice touch.
