Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Going by the last 10 minutes, they're going to be destroyed.

Holy sh*t, the possession stats. I mean, I've seen games won with 25 percent possession, but it was mainly in Pro Evo, to be fair.

Ginter's first name has to be Gunther .....right? :P

Ireland are the team in white right?

The mullers from Mayo have a strong history in the Irish jersey

Good job the ball is white so you can't see the snow on it.

    O'Neills tactics are pathetic.

    Germany are fúcking terrifying.

The movement up front is mesmerising.

I wouldn't be shocked at Germany scoring, it is to be expected but that would have been an awful goal to givevaway?

The pressing from the Germans is incredible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,545 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

    O'Neills tactics are pathetic.

In his defence, he's got injuries and suspensions so his hand is forced.

Also, Germany won the World Cup last year so they might be pretty good.

Holohan by far our best player on the pitch. Probably the most composed so far of all players on the pitch.

I get very excited when we manage to string 4 passes together.

Good to see Given still has those cat like reflexes, reason why he is still in the team................

Our best chance is for Poland to win.

I would have Cluxton in before him .......for the short kick outs like ;)

Bring him up to take free kicks and waste 3 or 4 minutes every time.

Great from Christy. Walters unlucky to be too close to the byline.

The route 1 stuff will f*ck Ireland, but to be honest, I could see them getting caught in possession if they tried to play as well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 884 ✭✭✭zefer

Every time given gets the ball, he hoofs it. Even if there is 5/10 yard pass on to the full backs. It's ridiculous

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

Given is just terrible with his kickouts aiming them to no one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,460 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

If Ireland score first they will be winning by 1-0

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,392 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Given's long balls are not remotely near an Irish player. Pathetic kicking.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,088 ✭✭✭Nib

I hate myself for saying this but we really miss Glen Whelan. The tackling around midfield is pathetic.

    McCarthy following shadows as usual.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,166 ✭✭✭Fr_Dougal

    Ireland are building in confidence.

They're top quality fast shadows though in fairness.

Why does Martin O'Neill hate Shane long?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,907 ✭✭✭✭Kristopherus

Just as an aside, the Faries are 1-0 away to Hungary.

Richard Keogh is whippin ass at the back. What a performance along with O'Shea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,364 ✭✭✭MonkieSocks

We need to Equalise before they score to have any chance.

=(:-) Me? I know who I am. I'm a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude (-:)=

    O'Shea is frustrating.

Excellent defending so far. Not sure how long we can keep them out, but so far so good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,043 ✭✭✭Hitchens

the Germans don't like it up 'em :)

this is absolutely embarrassing watching this.

O'Neil has managed to negate the benefit of not having Whelan's lack of technical ability by completely eradicating the need for midfielders by g/hoofball tactics. Have we played a ball forward on the ground yet?

Daryl Murphy: A player who managed to help Ireland score approximately 0 goals in 40 minutes against Gibraltar and with no real outstanding talent. Also, if we're looking for 1980s style flick ons, why do we have 2 "big man" players in him and Walters? Does he have any idea what a tactic is?

Cyrus Christie is completely out of his depth. I've counted 8 times that he's been badly caught out of position, luckily Germany are that bit complacent that they don't find the pass

Stephen Ward has been out of his depth for 5 years, he has no place at international level.

If we want to play an actual counter attacking tactic, why aren't we using two of our above average wingers in McClean and McGeady? Also, why not use our only striker who can outrun a defender in Long?

Why do you have a goalkeeper that effectively retired in the team?

Honestly, I would like nothing more than for Ireland and O'Neil to prove me wrong, but I'm not sure what tactics he actually wants to play. If you look at the teams directly below us, i.e. Luxembourg, Armenia, Estonia they actually make an effort to play the ball, not this bizzaro hoofball which worked at u14.

Though a bit better in the last 5 minutes as Germany get sloppy

The German coach thinks he is in a game now.
