Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Remember when his mother, Noeleen, sent him to boarding school so she could see more of Gary Maguire? That storyline has really stuck in my memory.

The guys and girls in the Soap Opera forum may have a better memory for that stuff.
I'll move this thread there now. :o

He was mentioned a couple of times afterwards by Kay and Malachy but that's it, I reckon. Although come to think of it, did he come to stay with them on his summer holidays ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,429 ✭✭✭branie

I remember Kay was shocked at the idea, but later, she gave Noeleen the money for the school fees

    Two Noeleens.
    Two Kays.

    No credibility.

Stephen was the grandson of the orginal owner of McCoys; Kay was his stepgrandmother

Is this Stephen thats the barman now ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,429 ✭✭✭branie

    No, that's a different Stephen

As far as I remember Noeleen died at the top of a hill or something like that and I think Stephen also died....or went to live with his father is the States.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 brucey2020

Yeah Noeleen committed suicide, and Stephen left to go to a boarding school(rte.ie/tv/faircity2008/stephen.html). It was left open for him to return, but the actor and his agent never followed it up. He went onto bigger things. Staring in the film '32A', TV Series 'Rock Rivals', and is now over in London, in his final year, which he will go straight into The Westend Theatre from. Down the line you should see him again on your Cinema/TV screens, so keep an eye out. ;)

Darragh Fallon, the first actor to play Stephen went off the radar after Stephen and Noeleen left for the cult's headquarters

If I remember rightly, the name of the cult was Church of the Children of the Eternal Light

Does anyone remember what Noeleen said to stephen, when he told her he didn't want to go to boarding school?

Are you by any chance preparing for Mastermind with "Fair City in the 1990s" as your specialist subject ? ;)

    Just wondering.

I don't think John Humphrys would have heard of Fair City :-)

If you do remember what Noeleen said, let me know :-)

That doesn't jog up memories then?

When and to whom did Kay eventually sell the pub?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,305 ✭✭✭✭branie2

Kay selling the pub has nothing to do with this thread

As Stephen was a baby at Christmas 1990, that means he was only 4 years old going to boarding school in 1994, typical fair city logic......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,305 ✭✭✭✭branie2

He went to boarding school in 1997

I can remember the cult storyline from around 03/04. 'The family embraces you Stephen', 'And I embrace the family'. Bizarre writing.

I remember he went off to boarding school for a second time offscreen and was never mentioned again, his friend Emma returned very briefly about 3 years later played by a different actress for a leaving cert pill storyline

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,305 ✭✭✭✭branie2

It's been 20 year since that storyline

It must have been to Headfort School he went

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,305 ✭✭✭✭branie2

    Where's that?

Meath, think it's the only boarding school in Ireland that takes 7 year olds

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,305 ✭✭✭✭branie2

The school Stephen went to was in Dun Laoghaire

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,305 ✭✭✭✭branie2

And Stephen didn't know he was going to boarding school until his mother brought him to see the school two days before he started

Typical unrealistic fair city, I'd say you'd need to have a child's name down on a waiting list for years for all Irish boarding schools

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,305 ✭✭✭✭branie2

Noeleen had found a place that opened up quickly at the school

Kay provided the money for the school fees
