What type of licence to drive an 8 seater?

Hey everyone
We're going to soon upgrade to an 8 seater (6kids) husband currently has a full car license , we have a 7 seater at the moment.
does he need to do anything to get any type of other license to drive an 8 seater ?

B section has the answer as follows:

Vehicles (other than motorcycles, mopeds, work vehicles or land tractors) having a MAM1 not exceeding 3,500 kg, designed and constructed for the carriage of no more than eight passengers in addition to the driver

Now , from personal experience with insurance (I used to work for an insurance company)

Before you buy any vehicle with more than 7 seats, pick one out and try get a quote for it before buying.

A good few insurance companies wont actually insure them under a normal car policy. Because the type of vehicle that has capacity for 9 people is generally a van like a VW transporter etc.

So do explore all the insurance options and different vehicles before purchasing !

Getting insurance on such a vehicle can be difficult. I found 1 who would insure me, acorn insurance, however if you are with the likes of AXA for years and are a loyal customer they will most likely do it. But expect most companies to reject you, broker is the way to go here in most cases. As fpr the licence, Transporter,Transit,Vito were all on a Category B dependent on the weight, as per NDLS policy lined above.

I drove 8/9 seaters for years and never had problems getting insurance and I switched numerous times over the years. Get some sample quotes to be sure but it shouldn't be a problem.
If you can get a 9 seater so you have room for a friend (or another child ðŸ˜€).
