Frosts

Does anyone understand why we can still get frosts in May only a bit over a month from summer Solstice but not for ages after?

Yes it’s because there’s a lag in temperatures relative to sun strength. April, right now, is just about two months from the solstice but the temperature has been stuck in the low teens for the last two weeks. In August the temperature will be much higher.

Also sea temp - water warms slower but also cools slower than land.

The average sea temp in April is around 8º. It reaches a max of about 16º in August and early September. But doesn't drop to 8º again until around December.

Also, the ground takes a while to warm up (not as long as water does), especially wetter ground takes a bit of time.
