Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have been online and cannot get any clear draw sheet, or real information on the draw. BTW, have the boxers weighed in? And, do they all weigh in today, or just those competing tomorrow?

Usually all weigh in this morning....then weigh in again the morning of your fight.

I think we were wrong about Nevin's draw according to this. http://www.london2012.com/boxing/event/men-bantam-56kg/index.html
As far as I can tell, he will most likely be fighting Anvar Yunusov of Tajikistan (the other Bronze medalist from last worlds) in the quarters. Vodopiyanov is in the bracket above him which would mean he couldn't meet him till the semis.

Nevin at 1415 hrs and Darren at 1515 hrs today!

I would be quite sure that RTE and BBC are covering the boxing at 1330 hrs. But, if anyone fancies not watching it on RTE, then BBC has the red button. Unreal. Your own personalised schedule. Pick and choose what sport to watch. The boxing is listed as beginning at 1325 hrs.

anyone fear one of our boxers has bet against himself? :(

This legal stream lets you pick your sport to for those who don't have sky digital. It has the boxing on feed 10 today.

The boxing I see goes on quite late into the evening. Adam Nolan due in the ring tomorrow at 2215 hrs. The last fight this evening is at 2315 hrs. Very late!

Nope. The only reason a boxer would even consider that is if they had no chance of a medal anyway or already had a professional contract signed and never really loved the amateur game anyway.

The lucrative deals offered to Olympic medallist far outways what anyone would make from betting against themselves. I'd be much more concerned with Azerbaijan officials/boxers/government officials betting on them gaining 2 Gold medals....

Good opening fight, that last round was the best with the Ukranian having to go for it, Diaz Jnr looks a good fighter from that showing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,619 ✭✭✭✭walshb

The opening bout, first of 272, was pretty good. The U.S. boxer, Diaz, beat a Ukranian fighter at 56 kgs. Diaz is very strong and will beat you if you want to stand and trade.

It will be a tough ask for Diaz next against the world champion.

Great win from Nevin. Totally outclassed his opponent.

On another note, Jimmy Magee is woeful.

An absolute joy to watch, sensational as ever from Nevin, he really just oozes class. It's gonna get a lot tougher from now on though.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 179 ✭✭Gary The Gamer

Magee needs to be quietly retired.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

I watched it on BBC, Richie Woodhall was on commentary.

Actually can't sit through Jimmy Magee talking ****e.

  • Registered Users Posts: 369 ✭✭Kaizer Sosa

Magee needs to be quietly retired.

You can retire Mick Dowling too. His comment about JJ Nevin being "a good thinker - that's thinker with a TH" was in very poor taste and Tracey Piggott should really have apologised as I think it was meant as a joke rather than simply trying to dig himself out of a hole.

He has such a snide attitude that overshadows his half-decent analysis at times.

Same here watched it on the BBC, I'm sure Jimmys a nice man and all, but his boxing commentary is very poor and no matter how bad an Irish boxer is Jimmy praises them to all heights.

Darren O Neil now on at 15:15.

The man was 77 last birthday ....time to pass on the job to a younger person

Was a great performance, he definetly could medal.

You can't have instant scoring as the two judges who's score deviate most at the end of round are discounted and the other three are averaged

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,361 ✭✭✭YouTookMyName

They changed the scoring, it's still shít, but not as shít as it used to be.

    Whats the story with O'Neill?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 35,489 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

Ogogo/Castillo is on but was scheduled after the O'Neill/Akanji bout
