Distant relative 3rd record down James Flood and Ellen Kileen, found marriage cert in 1881 and then in 1883 only thing different is the address, any ideas why there would have been a need for another registered marriage?

Well, the earlier one is in the registry office, which suggests a church marriage was not allowed. Were they different religions? The occupation of the groom's father is different on both as well.

This isn't a handwriting query so I'll make a separate thread.

Well, this new one is a different wife and another church. Weird that there's no date in January. Have you compared the church records?

I'd say this, sadly, is the death of Anne Flood, née Duffy, from puperal fever in 1881.

isn't it strange on Anne marriage record it says John duffy is the father and Owen on the church record.

James didn't hang around to get married again.

    Thanks

The findings are curious. To have married in January 1881, while already a widower, and then so soon again in August, is eye-opening.

A small correction, though, the address of January 1881 is No.14 Little Strand St, while the August 20 1881 is No.16. Either may be a genuine mistake, but it's obvious it's the same person.

Have you found the record of his previous marriage? As it stands, he married at least 3 times, with 4 ceremonies - Annie Duffy, Ellen Killeen x2, and one other before 1881.

Does someone need to be looking under some of those bricks he laid?

Well he was first marriage to Ellen Richards in 1860, so I might find even more marriages!! I would say it was down to the church having a married in 1881 then 1883, a daughter was born in April 1883 (Ellen) and marriage cert in 1883 is in June!
