Kicking off a new thread for this model to avoid confusion. Although its a replacement for the 150 there are quite a few differences in firmware and operation.

Been looking more in depth at the channel list on the 153 model and it now has a "groups" option rather than the old "all channels" "astra 1" etc So even when the list says "all channels" at the top you may still need to select "all" from the drop down list that appears when you hit the yellow "groups" button on the remote.

Is it physically smaller than the Ariva 150? Seems so, looking at the back, the way the tuner inputs are aligned.

Not looking for a how to, a PM with a link to a working patched firmware would suffice, for educational purposes of course ;)

About the same size I think but has no vents on top now.

2 things i find annoying about the 153 tho:
Shorter power cable than the 150
Won't tune any channel that does not broadcast a standard ID eg sky box office, interactive stream...

Have an issue when recording, say for example RTE One is channel 1 RTE 2 is channel 2, if i try to record a program on RTE 2, RTE one is gone from my lists of stations.Comes back when I stop recording.

You only have 1 DVB-T tuner. You can only watch or record from one frequency (mux) at any time.
if recording RTÉ2 you will still get TV3 and TG4 on the same Frequency. RTÉ1 and UTVi are the other.

Is there any way to get the interactive streams with this box as I have a 120 and was thinking of changing but would not like to lose this feature?

  • Registered Users Posts: 290 ✭✭Pete2k

U can but its a long winded route... The way I did it was to create a duplicate transponder of another frequency and then use the channel editor to manually adjust all the parameters like frequency, pids, etc.. to match the transponder of where the interactive streams are...

Was using an old sky box until my 153 arrived. It came with channels pre-programmed in, if i were to do a rescan, would it pick up motors TV that the old sky box is getting.

I dont want to rescan only to find motors tv doesnt appear on the list and have to delete loads of crap channels for nothing

Go to the Installation (I think - not near my box at the min) Menu and Add TP.

    Put in the following:
    Freq: 12515
    SR: 22000
    Pol: H

    and Scan the transponder.

You should now have Motors TV in the "All Channels" list.

This transponder is actually already listed as no 117 under Astra 2a . As far as I can see though Motors Tv is not FTA

Yes Ive followed the instructions above and while it does add the channel, its scrambled. Nothing for it but to keep the old sky box and move the cable across when needed.

Motors TV is a Free to View Channel with Sky. It only works with a Sky box, even one that has no sub.

Following this thread now, just got my new 153's and am really happy with it. Time to do a bit exploring. Tony beside making a copy of the initial channel list any other tips or tricks I should watch out for?

One thing I loved immediately was I didn't need to retune my samsung remote to control the 153, it picked it up straight away.

Nothing springs to mind straight off except the usual warnings about not doing a factory re set unless you have a channel list already prepared and do not ignore binary mismatch messages when upgrading.

    Hi

Do you know how I can tell what resolution the channel I'm watching is at?

In the settings the max I can get is 570i

But the TV is HD ready

So surely I should get 1080i when watching a HD channel?

If you go to "Menu" then "TV System" and set the video out to "YUV", you will be able to select higher resolutions from the "Video Resolution" menu.

You will need to be using HDMI rather than Scart to get the higher resolution on your tv.
