Forest Wedding

Hi all, We've started planing our wedding... very very early stages. We dont know where to start really. We are hoping for Sept 2021 or 2022 wedding - depending on how much we will need to save. Any advice on the following would be appreciated. (I realise we are a bit all over the place decision wise at the mo, so sorry for that)

We would love love love to get married in a forest (We are not having a legal outdoor wedding as in we will be getting married in a registry office prior to the wedding celebrations). I can just imagine, surrounded by trees with twinkling fairy lights and candles all round. We plan on involving our friends and family as much as possible - our "celebrant" will be one of our best friends, music by our friends and some diy decor by our friends... We are a creative bunch.

Has anyone been to or had a wedding like this?

We live in Co Clare but would be willing to travel as long as its not too far out of the way for our parents comfort.

We would be willing to rent a marquee if necessary but I've no idea if this is just as expensive as hiring a venue? Any venue recommendations or marquee hire recommendations? We'd also love to make a weekend out of it.

Accommodation needs to cater for our parents and immediate family - our friends would be happy to camp out of necessary. So a hotel is not really somewhere we'd be thinking of.

We dont want to spend a fortune so we wont be having too many flowers or a cake as we are not really into these things.

Sorry I know this post is a lil all over the place but its a start :)

    Thanks

Not a forest, however it is surrounded by very large tall trees, a short walk from hotel and function room.

Click on the link. Outside wedding ceremony, surrounded by trees, fairy lights and candles. It ticks most of your boxes. I got legally married there outside. Didn’t have to go to a registry office. Guests could walk from bar to the ceremony, then stroll back to sit outside for more beers in the sun, then into the room for dinner

Just an idea. Hope this helps

You have to go into the gallery section to see the ceremony area. It’s all the magic of a forest, with all the convenience of a small hotel with all the amenities just a short walk away

The Station House is pretty much exactly what you are looking for, depending on distance from Co Clare. I've worked there a few times, the pic below is from a ceremony in the forest. There is a fairy-light walkway from the hotel through the forest to the ceremony location - it's really nice.

You can click on the pic above to see some more from the station house. Click on the "Our Work" tab to find it. If you have any questions about the venue let me know.

We got married here and was just about to recommend!
The grounds are just stunning and the walkway through the forest to the turntable is magical.
Big trek from Clare though! (We came from Tipp)

Not trying to be a smartass, but what happens when it rains there? Do you just get wet, and get on with it? or is there a backup plan?

We brought loads of cheap umbrellas just in case
There is some shelter from the very tall trees
If worst comes to the worst, and the rain is too much, you can do the ceremony in the function room.

All you have to do is believe it won’t rain :-)
Forecast for our day was terrible. Turned out to be absolutely stunning. Getting married with crows cawing up above. Magic

Inish Beg in Co. Cork could be an option too, but it might be too far away.

We were the opposite, good day forecast and it pissed! But we did ceremony inside and got amazing pics in the rain. Staff in the Station House were amazing too and food was top notch. Trying to attach pics but they are too big.

Another potential option for you to consider is The Westport Woods Hotel.

    https://www.westportwoodshotel.com/

They recently refurbished their function room it has great views over Clew Bay and has a woodland at the back. Maybe not what you are looking for if you want to hold the entire reception outside.

It's absolutely beautiful. Staff are wonderful and so helpful too. I think if you go for a look you'll be blown away.

Check out St. Brigid's garden in Moycullen, Co. Galway. It's a huge area with many different ceremony options depending on party size.
They have a function room and marquis too.
