Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

53/1 after 10. Stirling got off to a flier but has just had back to back maiden overs so pressure building there.

Just when it doesn't matter at all. And yet this will keep him clinging to a place in the team, blocking a younger player, for a while more.

Note that I'm not saying there's someone younger knocking the door down to be promoted into the team, just that Porterfield's contributions over the last 24 months don't justify him being in place ahead of someone who may well do as badly, but at least has a future in the side in the medium- to long-term.

Adair has been impressive this series.

Wilson out but went out swinging.

Adair out. Very poor last over this.

2 wickets, 2 runs. Anyway still a decent enough total, although you'd have to think that Bangladesh will be able for it

Decent enough effort at the end of the day though. And fair dues to Porterfield for making a few runs at last. But why is it usually when it doesn't really matter or against weak opposition?? Mostly hasn't scored when it matters and time to move on IMHO.

Tamim gone! We'll need a few more quick though

Don't think this bowling attack could defend 700. Awful awful performance. 15 of the first 17 overs have had at least 1 boundary.

Our bowling unit is worse than a lot of associates

No Murtagh is a strange call......hes generally economical, if not a big wicket taker.

Also, the last day Stirling was also economical, and only got a couple of overs

Let's not get carried away. Yes he's slogged a few late on, but his bowling has been torn apart. He's young though so hopefully this is all part of the learning curve

Been that way for a while I think. When we were doing better, our bowling was that bit tighter and we fielded sharply. Which put it's own pressure on and we got more wickets from indifferent balls. That's how it seems to me anyway.

Looks like this is heading down the tubes as well. If it does, I think that'll make our record from last dozen matches look like LLLLLWLWLLLL, which includes 8 ODIs, 3 T20s and 1 Test.

Pretty much hammered in the end

Playing Afghanistan up in Belfast today in the first of two ODI's.

McCollum out early (hasn't really happened for him as of yet) and Balbirnie also went cheaply.

Ireland are 64/2 after 14 overs with Stirling 30* and Porterfield 21*

Back to back 50s for porrterfiedl

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Porterfield out for 53 when Ireland needed to push on. A poor shot straight to the fielder on the leg-side.

    134/3 with 18 overs remaining.

Stirling skies a short ball straight to the hands of mid-on. Ireland now struggling at 140/4.

210 all out with an over left. Didn't really work out too well in the batting dept after Porterfield & Stirling and credit due to Porters for a second 50 innings.

Afg in a spot of bother with 2 down, with tight bowling and unfamiliar conditions. Might yet be something in this for us. That Rahmat Shah fella gave us some trouble out there, fairly knocked us about IIRC.

Who'd have thought - Afg still needing 90 and only 3 wickets. Could be getting a long needed win here :)

Did anyone get to watch this? Was Ireland’s bowling that good or did Afghanistan just fall apart?

  • Registered Users Posts: 729 ✭✭✭wicorthered

The difference a pitch with a Bit of help for the seamers makes to this side. Pity we couldn't get those pitches for the tri series.

Great figures for Adair, should give him confidence going forward. It's time now for McBrine to replace Dockrell as the no 1 spinner.

Hopefully McCollum keeps his spot for the summer. Needs a little patience from the selectors

Ireland win toss and put Afghanistan in to bat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Badly needed wicket after Afghanistan got off to a flier.

    25/1 after 3.2 overs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,578 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

56/1 after 10. Lots of boundaries and Shahzad in particular going very well
