In the case of ex-tropical storms or hurricanes, the original name allocated by the US National Hurricane Center in Miami will continue to be used.

No mention of the Portuguese Met there.

Emma was named by the IPMA as well, and the name retained.

I think it was stated on here earlier that whoever first names a storm places that name on it for keeps. Seems a shame as Deirdre such a lovely Irish name.

Here's an update after looking over 18z GFS and RGEM guidance.

Complex front out ahead of rapidly deepening "Diana" west of Azores will spit out three separate parcels of energy from tonight to Wednesday morning. The first of these will move rapidly north past Belmullet late tonight and the front will shear, allowing some of its energy to move inland for a time. This will set off a convergence line possible thunderstorm event that could have some severe characteristics locally (90% of it will remain fairly mundane though). Can't rule out localized torrential rains, hail, wind gusts etc, and possibly some rather intense thunder and lightning for this time of year. That will begin to die out when the small low moves far enough away for the front to re-establish its former position west of Ireland. A second wave will then form as a leading frontal wave for Diana, moving past the west coast early Wednesday and briefly ramping up wind speeds on the south coast as it passes. There will be a slight retraction of wind speeds before the main portion of Diana's energy arrives and that will deliver the strongest wind gusts over a larger area, around mid-day Wednesday. Some areas of heavy rain likely but more of a moderate rainfall event likely.

So quite an active spell of weather incoming and kicking off late tonight with round one. That may greet early risers on Tuesday morning with almost summer-like squally showers. Temperatures will soar with all of this active weather on southerly winds, would not be surprised to see the odd 14 or 15 reading.

The thread title needs to mention heavy rain too as the early hours of Tuesday morning Will be atrocious with heavy squally downpours with possible embedded thunder.
The sparks should be more confined to just off the West coast but some just might come ashore to hit places like Galway.
Gonna be a dirty morning as the front passes through.
Be careful out there in the morning. Gonna be fairly blustery as it crosses the country.



I'm not overly concerned about Wednesday wind event as yet.

This smaller scale low running up the west coast may produce an hour or two of gusts above 110 km/hr locally, will have little impact on most areas further east. Seeing some timing differences on it, faster models have it past Belmullet by 0900h, slower around noon to 1 p.m.

For Diana, the track now seems fairly consistent among the guidance but some differences on whether it will retain its own circulation or be absorbed towards Wednesday morning by the parent low south of Iceland. The GFS looks to have the strongest winds now.

That secondary for the southeast idea seems to be downgraded to just some moderate rain Wednesday night.

Waiting to see what the ECM makes of it all this time. The low ("Diana") has reached about 41N 37W now. The overnight sensation is already passing west of Kerry on its way north.

Lashing down in portarlington and getting some nice gusts.

Really getting going in Dublin city centre now. Not nice to be out in at all. Extremely heavy rain with very strong gusts. Sure to make the morning commute interesting
