    Hi all,

I am doing some research on wind energy and looking to see where i could find some info on wind speeds in Ireland with a comparison to other countries for the last few years.

I know the west of Ireland has some of the highest mean annual wind speeds in Europe but I need some good info confirming this from a good source.

Very little info on the Met website so thought a few nice boardsies may be able to help.

    Cheers.

Cant help too much except to say that for the best part of 2011 we have been pummelled by West/Northwest Winds in Sligo

I wouldn't take the last few years as typical examples - they were dominated by long periods of high pressure without much wind. You have to look at long term averages.

Ordnance Survey have a wind speed map on their website: http://shop.osi.ie/Shop/Products/Default.aspx#wind

I'm not sure if this will be any help because I'm not really experienced in this, I just remembered seeing it on the OSI website.

They look good but bit too in depth. Need a higher level view of this though.

I will be using the last few years from a research perspective I could not just leave it out but I will also be looking at long term trends. This is probably the most interesting part for me to look at.
