Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    there was a player in the 70's who apparently played his only game for the rep of Ireland. He never received his cap until recently and then the FAI sent him 2 cos the game was against Trinidad & Tobago !

    Not sure if this is true but wud tend to believe it cos of the FAI link.

    That tour was to South America in 1982, just before the World Cup and it was a hopelessly depleted Irish team. The match against T&T was played three days after Ireland had been thumped 7-0 by the Brazilian team that was expected to win the world cup that summer. (They didn't but they were still hot)

    The Irish team beaten by Trinidad & Tobago was:

    Gerry Peyton (Fulham)
    Eamonn Deacy (Aston Villa)
    Mick Martin (Newcastle United)
    Mike Walsh (Everton NB not Mickey Walsh the striker)
    John Anderson (Preston)
    Gerry Daly (Coventry City)
    Tony Grealish (Brighton)
    Liam Brady (Juventus)
    Johnny Walsh (Limerick United)
    Gerry Ryan (Brighton)
    Brendan O'Callaghan (Stoke)


    The only person for whom this was his only cap was Johnny Walsh of Limerick. I can believe that he only got his cap lately but the one about getting two is a load of pants, I reckon.
