    2 questions on the aul budget...

    1) When do the new tax rates / bands, mortgage releif etc kick in? I know the price hike on ciggies is effective immediately, presumably the giveaways are stalled?

    2) Is the first time buyers mortgage relief also known as TRS (Tax Relief at Source)?

    Most come in on January 1st.

    Yes, these terms are often used analagously.

    TRS refers to all mortgage interest relief usually (wrt to mortgages). Not everyone qualifies for the First Time Buyers rate and gets lumped into the smaller one. It's still relief at source though.
