    Congrats Minier :)
I'm also due early January 2022. This would be my first. Trying not to get too excited yet though as I've had light spotting on and off since Sunday.
Had my first GP appointment today and she thinks I'll get an appointment with the Coombe as soon as next week due to the spotting.
I've a long and irregular cycle but I think I'm due January 2nd.
    How are you feeling?

(Hope it's ok to go unreg here but paranoid real life people who know my username will see).

Congratulations Minier! How are you feeling?

I'm also due early January 2022. This will be my first.

I had my first scan today, at 6 weeks. I've had spotting on and off for over a week and my GP mentioned it in my referral letter to the Coombe so they offered me an early scan. Thankfully all looked well, even saw the flickering of the heartbeat. I'm finding the whole thing very surreal.

    Hi Poissy
    Congrats to you too!
I am just a few days behind you then, I'll be 6 weeks this week too. I had spotting at the 4-5 week stage but is seems to have died down now, I am back to NMH for a scan next week too.
This is baby 2 for me :-)

And I'm feeling good. Tiredness is my only symptom so far and a little bloated. How are you feeling?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10 Poissy

That's great you're feeling good, long may it last. At least with this being your second you'll have an idea of what to expect over the next few months :)

I've felt ok so far. Every so often I'll suddenly feel a bit off (dizzy or mildly nauseous) but thankfully it doesn't last long. I'm worried though as a few of the women in my family have suffered from hyperemesis and I just don't know how I'll cope if it happens to me, I'm an essential worker so working from home isn't an option.

Hadn't noticed being more tired than normal but I had booked today off work and I randomly fell asleep in the afternoon for a few hours. Hoping its just on account of a bad night's sleep last night thinking about the scan, think I had convinced myself it was ectopic!!

I had a bit of mild nausea last time but probably not this early. I found it worst when I had an empty stomach. Try to eat small but often and it might stay at bay. Hopefully you escape the severe nausea your family had.

I fall asleep alot watching tv in the evening!! My coping mechanism is to try to go to bed early one night a week. The odd sneaky nap could sort of any tiredness for you. Its just your body making you do what it needs.

I had myself convinced mine was ectopic too after the bleeding, and I have had previous miscarriages so was really thinking the worst. Yolk sac was visible at 5 weeks though, too early for anything else then but hopefully next week scan will bring more reassurance. Feeling very optimistic now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10 Poissy

Thanks Minier. Unfortunately I've been feeling very nauseous since Tuesday. Its more or less constant. Eating does sometimes help but not always. It hasn't progressed to vomiting but hoping and praying that its not just a matter of time.

Sorry to hear about your previous miscarriages, I can imagine it would make you paranoid. When is your upcoming scan? Hope it goes well :)

Congratulations! A lovely surprise and addition for your wedding. I am just a week ahead of you. I am just tired and a little bloated so far. I have a feeling the nausea might not start until 8 weeks.... but hopefully you will be one of the ones who escape it!

Thanks and same to you, on both the wedding and pregnancy. Exciting months ahead :)

I'm also going with the Coombe, really impressed with them so far so hopefully that lasts.

Today is my worst day yet for nausea. Work was painful. Almost considering making myself sick to see if it makes me feel any better, but keep putting it off in case it's similar to breaking the seal & once I start I won't be able to stop. Sorry for the TMI:o

Remember feeling like that on my third, ir's terrible.I never actually got sick though.Small amounts of fairly plain food seem to be best.Sometimes a few mouthfuls of coke (weirdly) or ginger biscuits helped but hopefully it will pass in a few weeks.

Hi All, I'm due early January too :)
Trying to wrap my head around semi-private vs public - I really want my OH to be able to come to scans so thinking public and pay for private scans is maybe best option (as it looks like if semi-private you have to do the scans at the hospital on your own due to Covid). I'm guessing with Covid the waiting times for public are now much shorter - anyone have experience/heard from others?
    Thanks!

    Congratulations :)

Unless you have private health insurance then I wouldn't bother.

I was in the same boat having my last and I was advised that ALL hospital stays would be chargeable to us if we didn't have VHI or alternative.

So if you had an infection, or high blood pressure and had to stay in for a few days. You'll be charged for everything.

    Hope that helps.

Private scans are a different thing altogether. There are loads of places where you can just pay as you go for scans. Ultrasound Dimensions in Blackrock are great if you're in Dublin. Also Merrion Fetal Health.

Thanks for the tips. I did read that ginger is good for nausea but didn't even think of ginger biscuits. The thought of them doesn't even turn my stomach like most foods do so I will definitely try them :)

I don't have any experience but I did read that public is grand so I decided to go public and then will probably pay for at least one private scan.

To be honest I think semi private is a bit of a rip off. I would personally either do public or fully private. Public maternity care is excellent in Ireland. I believe with covid appointment waiting around times are improved but don't have direct experience of this. Getting extra private scans is easy. Also hopefully in a few months more and more are vaccinated, the birth partners will be back in person for all this.

Congratations!!!! Soooo exciting!!! Yes Im going to go public. Semi private is basically the same I heard except you have to pay for certain services so didnt see the point. Going to see about getting private scans too on my VHI so my OH can come. Really hope things get better for the OH soon!

I was the same! Nothing to worry about. Some women escape symptoms altogether. But for many others symptoms start closer to 8 weeks. I only really have tiredness and a but of bloating.
    Congratulations x

Me! I've been feeling very sorry for myself for the past couple of weeks. Nausea is just horrible. I also just really miss enjoying food, so much of eating is now such a chore.

I have actually had a few days lately where I've felt a bit better and I still have never actually gotten sick so although I don't feel great today, I'm really really hoping that maybe it might ease off soon. Or maybe just wishful thinking!

Hope you are feeling better soon Cheesegirl and hope the rest of you are doing well.

I'll be 9 weeks next week and I've booked a Panorama test for late next week. It includes a scan so fingers crossed all looks well.

Hi everyone, congratulations to you all! Tentatively joining this thread :) Brand new territory for me.

I'm 7w5d today I think. Feeling pretty tired and nauseous. The nausea wasn't too bad over the weekend but seems to have come back with a bang today! The tiredness and nausea really hit me in the afternoon and evening I find.

I decided to go public and I sent of my referral letter to the Coombe about 2 weeks ago. I haven't heard anything yet, has anybody else sent off their letter and heard back about their booking appointment? This is all brand new to me so I don't have a clue how long this kind of thing takes. I know as well that the cyber attack has most likely affected things too.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

    Hi,

I am 9 weeks today and i am also going public with the coombe. I had a call 3 weeks ago to say they received my forms but that i couldnt be put up on the system due to the hse hack. I have heard nothing since. I went for a private scan this week, hopefully we will hear from them soon!

Thanks! I didn't hear anything from them, but I was actually there during the week in the emergency room, so some of my details are in the system now. I might ring during the week to check they got the forms. It'd be nice to have an idea when the appointment will be. I've booked a private scan for next week too :)

I'm also going public with the Coombe and I've heard nothing about my booking scan, even though I'll be 11 weeks tomorrow! And if you go by my last period, I'm 13 weeks tomorrow (I've a long cycle & ovulate late however).

I didn't actually send them any forms myself, my GP said she'd do it, but I'm beginning to wonder if she did. She did refer me to the EPU as I had spotting but I think that's separate as while I was at that appointment, the lady scanning me asked if I'd sent in my forms yet.

I suppose I should give them a call on Monday!

How's everyone feeling? I'm still getting bouts of nausea but thankfully it never got really bad, and hoping it might ease soon. Had panorama last week and all looked good on the scan but still waiting on the blood test results.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 DaisyC

I was asked the same thing Poissy while I was in there, had I sent in my forms yet. Hopefully you will hear soon, or they'll have some info if you call.

I am still having nausea and tiredness every day, and bloating. The nausea really gets me from afternoon to evening. Had a lovely long nap today though. Closed my eyes to rest and woke up an hour later after a deep sleep with mad dreams!

I hope everyone is doing well.

My GP sent a letter into them about 4 weeks ago and i got a form posted out to me by the coombe, to be filled out. I can see the form online that i filled out. It is called the maternity patient registration form. No harm ringing them to see. Its very hard just been left in the dark, everytime my phone rings i wonder will it be them with an appointment!
I have very similiar symptoms to everyone here but thankfully feeling ok most of the time! Hope everyone is getting on ok.

Oh would you mind letting us know what they say @DaisyC - I'm 10 weeks and sent my form to the Coombe weeks ago but haven't heard anything...just be good to know at what stage to call if we haven't heard like should I wait till 12 weeks to phone? Thanks!

If I call them I will, I don't know whether to call or not haha. Like you I don't know when to call! I'm 9 weeks so I think I should probably wait until after 10 weeks anyway...it's hard to know!

Hopefully you might hear from them soon Cheesegirl since your 12 weeks, let us know if you do :)

Hey girls, i am 10.5 weeks and i received a letter by post this morning with two appointments. One with a midwife at a local clinic next week and a scan in hospital the following week.
Hopefully your letters are on the way.

I've received the letter with the appointments after two weeks of waiting. But I live in Cork.

The only thing I haven't done because of the cyberattack is the first blood test with the GP. The doctor asked me to call back 3 weeks later to schedule the blood test which I did, but they are doing just urgent cases.

My first scan is next week, I looking forward for that as I don't really feel that I'm pregnant - although I fell tired every day and some days with sickness.

Hope everyone is doing well. :)

    Hey Ladies,

So.. I've just found out that were expecting. A bit shocked at the moment but so happy. As far as I know I'm about 5 weeks- I rang my GP yesterday and they won't see me until 24 weeks and told me that I have to choose a hospital to confirm the pregnancy? Is this unusual? Also I'm not sure what hospital to pick, I'm in Kildare. I also have health insurance and not totally sure if I should go semi private or public, both seem pretty similar. :)

Congratulations Lala :) I rang my GP and they asked me to come in, they just did another test and checked my blood pressure, that was all really. The hospital won't see you until around 12 weeks for booking appointment. I also had to sign the form for the combined care. I had to ask about this as I'd read about it somewhere, the doctor didn't mention it so if I hadn't read it somewhere I wouldn't have known to ask. It's my first time too so I feel pretty clueless.

I also live in Co. Kildare and I picked the Coombe and decided to go public. The form to register is on their website. My health insurance doesn't have great cover and we are trying to buy a house so I said I'd just go public, I've heard good things. I know people who have gone to the Coombe so that was really my only reason for picking! As I said, it's all new to me!

Hi, just popping over from the Nov thread. I'm also in kildare and going private for my 3rd baby, have always gone private and while the money is always a stretch for us (3,600 plus 200 anomaly scan fee for my Consultant- that includes a discount for repeat customers!) I feel it is absolutely worth every penny.

I was scanned by my Consultant at 7,9,11,13,16 weeks so far and I'm 19 weeks now with another scan next week. The private room afterwords is an absolute luxury but for me the care during my pregnancy and regular scans and having full autonomy on what was happening regards the birth is priceless.

Best of luck with your pregnancy and your choice.

Thanks Daisy ❤️.. and congratulations to you too. I feel like I'm in the depths here not knowing what or who to call. I'm deciding between the coombe or the rotunda - not really sure where to choose? Have you had a good experience with the coombe? Best of luck with the house. I know it's a long process but you'll get there 😄 that's great that you got in with your gp. They wouldn't see me and told me to ring whatever hospital I choose to to the confirmation. I have also started taking pregnacare max? Is there anything else that I should be taking?

Myself and my partner drove in one evening past the coombe and the rotunda, because we really didn't know where they were even! Just the general area. The Coombe was ever so slightly closer haha. I haven't really told anybody about the pregnancy as I'm waiting until the first hospital scan so I didn't really have anyone to ask. I just know a few people that went to the Coombe and they got on fine. I went to the Coombe Emergency Room two weeks ago for something, spoke to my GP first and then he advised me to go there. I had a good experience there anyway. I haven't had any proper appointments yet. I suppose you'd hear good and bad about everywhere! All I've been told is to make sure I'm taking Folic Acid, so that will be in the pregnacare, it will say on it anyway!

I would try to send in the forms soon anyway, because I sent mine in ages ago and they're very delayed with the hack.

I actually just got my booking appointment and dating scan appointment today in the post! I was getting anxious waiting so I'm delighted to have the dates.

I'm the exact same haha! It's still early days so I have told no one and I know my friends would be experienced with the Coombe, they haven't said anything bad so far. Ah that's brilliant congrats! Id say you are delighted to have the appointment. So do I download the form and send it in or ring first? Yeah good to know- google is my best friend at the moment when it comes to folic acid etc haha. Are you going or have you went for a private scan yet?

Can I ask why/how you got so many scans? (I would love that for the peace of mind!) I am 12 weeks and only got that booking scan from the hospital but am semi-private. Best of luck to you.

    Hey Ladies,

Congrats Lala! The advice I got was: Rotunda has the better food, Coombe has the better parking!
I read the HSE reports for maternity hospitals and tbh they all seem much the same in terms of rates of C-sections and other stuff (didn't know/want to know what half the interventions are!!!)

Have heard great things about Public care, but I chose semi-private purely for a quieter room after birth. My insurance mentioned something about claiming some of the cost back in tax?

There's a Jan group on rollercoaster that I'm also on and some good advice there too if you don't mind multi-boarding :)
