Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Covid travel restrictions & vet appointment

    Hi all,

    I adopted a cat from <snip> back in July and everything's going great, she's only been here a few months but I couldn't imagine not having her around.

    At the time I agreed the adoption an appointment to have her neutered at the <snip> was scheduled, however Rathfarnham's well outside the latest "level 5" covid restrictions. Does anyone have any how the restrictions apply to something like this? I've had a look at the government info and as it regards animals it generally seems to refer to livestock etc.

    Personally I'd just make an appointment at your local vet, as that's probably the one you're going to go to with any future issues.

    However if you do decide to make the trip, I reckon it would be considered essential travel. Just have proof of the appointment with you.

    It's falls under animal welfare so therefore essential.

    It’s fine - it falls under essential. My vet is outsize the 5k too. The only thing is that the vets themselves might have a list of what services they class as essential eg Bailey’s laser/cartrophen is essential but eg boosters and nail clipping is not. I don’t think routine spay/neuter is at our vets either?

    Thanks for the feedback everyone, that's very useful. I heard back from <snip> that the appointment was still on, I just wasn't certain on the 5km rule, I'll make sure to have appointment details etc printed out with me.

    You can travel to your vet - We did Wicklow to Limerick for a specialist vet appointment this week through checkpoints without any hassle.

    any animal welfare issues or treatments are allowed dogs included vets are on call doing all the normal work & visits to the surgeries are just different stay in car hand over dog come back & collect no entry to the actual surgeries thats the situation in my vets
