Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

New car sales down 37% year on year

According to the CSO data new car sales dropped by 37% for the first 8 months of the year compared to the first 8 months of 2019. That is a drop of 31,709 cars.

The used car market is down 64% for the same time period a drop of 27,329 cars

My reason for looking was I heard lots of people talking about the fact that people decided to upgrade cars etc as they were not going on holiday but this data suggests that this is not the case

Do you think this is just a temporary drop due to covid and more cars will be sold in the remaining 4 months or next year or is this the start of a slow down?

Also this drop in new car sales must have left a hole in the government's finances as VRT takings on 31,709 new cars is a lot.
