Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sulky racing

Given recent publicity about sulky racing on major roads. Is it feasible to use race courses or convert recently closed greyhound tracks for sulky racing?

Harness racing is big in France no reason it couldn't grow here and would give the sulky racers somewhere to compete.

Will it be regulated and licensed? Not sure that particular "minority" of people know what either are...

Half the sulky racers aren't of that minority you refer to.
Some already use the harness racetrack in portmarnock.
There is big enough money in breeding those horses and selling them on to other countries.

I do remember seeing them race in Dundalk before. So they would have options there.

I don't get the issue to be honest. They tend to only race early morning and the owners and connections have a genuine enthusiasm for the sport. The horses are well looked after, any animal welfare nonsense is mere scaremongering. Those horses would be treated as well as any racehorse.

Horses are entitled to run on public roads.

I do think there is a certain snob element amongst some of the more begrudging opponents of the sport. I have no issue with at all.

They aren't entitled to race on public roads

The Roads Act of 1993 details rules surrounding the holding and organisation of road races.
“A person who intends to hold, organise or promote a road race shall give at least one month’s notice (or such other period of notice as may be prescribed by the Minister) in writing to the road authority and to the Superintendent of the Garda Síochána within whose district the road race is to be held,”

The Irish Times have posted this video. I'm surprised as I get the strong impression they prefer to look the other way on stuff like is.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/crime-and-law/garda%C3%AD-investigating-four-lane-motorway-sulky-race-1.4179482

Only mistake they made was not to post it in the Culture section.

I don't understand this culture bollox, it was the culture of Scandinavians to raid, rape and pillage Europe back in the day, I bet if they tried to do it these days and said "Its our culture" people wouldn't just look the other way

Not just the racing that should be banned, the cultured folk who ride them should be banned too, the epitome of untermensch.
