Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    New Screen Unseen tomorrow night.

The guys on letterbox'd seem to think that it will be Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (87 on Metacritic, 93 on RT)

    https://letterboxd.com/mattevenson/list/odeon-screen-unseen/

Could be something completely different, but Three Billboards would be great.

Looking at the clues I don't see how it could be. That said, the clues they have given to every film over the last 6 months have made absolutely no sense. No-one has been able to explain the thinking behind the clues for Brigsby Bear. Sort of self defeating if the cliues are so opaque that no-one can decipher them.

Totally agree. I wish they'd explain them.

One comment on that link above is...
Just got told by someone who works at ODEON that the Screen Unseen is Three Billboards! So excited because In Bruges is one of my favourite movies of all time.

    ... so that's the one I'm going on. :)

(even though anecdotally, I've heard that very few people in the Odeon know what it is, to prevent leaks).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,537 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    So it was Three Billboards.

I went to the Disaster Artist because the time suited me better. Looking forward to seeing Three Billboards in early January. :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 535 ✭✭✭Telecaster58

It was Three Billboards though there were people there who thought it might be Coco. In fact there were people at my showing who had young kids with them and they were admitted which is a disgrace. That said, very good film. All three principals, McDormand, Harrelson, and Rockwell were uniformly excellent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,537 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

The rating for this movie was 16s (it was that rating on the Screen Unseen page on their site).
Kids should not have been allowed near the place.

Agreed. The actual rating was 15A, and I'd say top of the range 15A, but their own advertising shows a 16 certificate. After about 10 minutes any parent would have known this was not suitable for an under 10.

For anyone interested Scream Unseen is back on March 19th. This is the horror movie version of Screen Unseen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,537 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    Yep. First clue is:

    1. "Driven, but doesn't drive"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,537 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    The 4 clues are:

    1. "Driven, but doesn't drive"
    2. "Cleaning up since '99"
    3. "One dead duck"
    4. "He thought twice before cracking the mirror"

It's a tricky bunch of clues but people seem to be leaning towards Ghost Stories (with Unsane, A Quiet Place and the Strangers sequel also in the running).

I'm interested in all 4 so I'm going next Monday. :)

I hadn't heard of Ghost Stories, but it looks fantastic.

Thanks for that. I'm hoping for A Quiet Place myself but i'd be happy with any of them too. It probably won't be The Strangers sequel as Screen Unseen have a policy of never showing sequels or prequels so I assume it applies here too.

I’m hoping for a quiet place also

    Copied from another site:

Cleaning up since 99 means it must be Ghost Stories. Jeremy Dyson has been working in tv and film since 1999, and Dyson = vacuum cleaner!

Yeah it's seems certain to be that from looking at reddit and the like. One thing I was wrong about is the sequels thing. I forgot that a previous Screen Unseen was the Blair Witch sequel and Split was a kind of sequel aswell. I was at both of them too which shows how good my memory is :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,342 ✭✭✭dunworth1

So it was in fact Ghost Stories

I think people laughed more than they were scared at my local showing

What did you think of it?

it was ok I was bored at times while watching it but it does have its moments and a good twist or two

I think I only jumped may 2 or 3 times so its not really scary

Screen Unseen on Tuesday 3rd April, yet not one clue as to the film and no tweets even from Odeon themselves. Seems odd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,537 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

The clues are on Odeon's Facebook page and on Reddit.

Clue 1: Stemming from a rough slice
    Clue 2: A multi-tasking scholar
Clue 3: Once sang a solid song
Clue 4: A looming dark tale with Smith

I had a look through the comments on Facebook and it might be The Breadwinner. It also looks like it's specifically an Irish movie, so that's why there isn't a decent discussion about it on Reddit or Letterboxd.

Saw that too, I saw it at the film festival so will have to give it a miss. There was also some comments that suggested it could be Black 47, that I would like to see... hmm

Black47 is excellent. Slow but gathers momentum.

As I seen it at the festival I'm hoping it's The Breadwinner :p

Scream Unseen is back again this Monday.
    The clues so far:
    1. 1, 2, 3, 10
    2. From fighting to writing
    3. Four of the same

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,537 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Clue 4: With Smokin’ Drive Brothers

    A comment from Reddit:
Its definitely Upgrade. The director and writer of Upgrade did Saw 1 2 3 and 10 (a Saw Short) whilst also he acted and fighted in the first 2 Saw films: hence from fighting to writing.

Upgrade hasn't got a BBFC rating yet, so I have my doubts. It would be a great one to show though...

What if its that potatoe movie, lads. Don't think i could take it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,537 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Actually it could be the Strangers 2 (in case anyone was hoping for Upgrade). From Clue 4:
Smokin' (Aces = Martin Henderson) Drive (= Christina Hendricks) Brothers (= Bailee Madison) clue is extremely indicative of Strangers 2.

All 3 actors are in Strangers: Prey at Night

It was Strangers: Prey at Night. I checked my phone when the credits rolled, it's only 77 minutes long! I liked it though, it's no masterpiece and full of cliches but it gets into the action pretty quickly and delivers a solid horror movie. If you liked the first Strangers movie you should like this one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 535 ✭✭✭Telecaster58

It wasn't great if I'm honest. Absurd set-up and too many plot holes

Omniplex have a similar offering - Secret Cinema (does it warrant a separate thread?), with the next being Friday week (29th June). 10 euros gets ticket and a medium drink and popcorn.

    https://www.omniplex.ie/whatson/movie/omniplex-secret-screening-10

Comparing it to the IFCO upcoming movies:

    http://ifco.ie/website/ifco/ifcoweb.nsf/web/upcomingfilms?opendocument&upcoming=yes&type=graphic

release date, IFCO rating (16), Genre (Drama) and run-time (95 minutes) all point to Dublin Oldschool.

But 29th of June is its actual release date according to that Youtube link..?

Aye, but the only other contenders (rated 16) are Tag (release date 29th June, run-time 100 mins) or Hotel Artemis (Release date 20th July, run-time 94 minutes).

Two other 16s are listed, Heathers and In the Fade, but I think the run-times and release dates preclude them.

(Of course the film may not be on the IFCO future releases table yet, but the fact Omni are advertising a 16s rating would seem to indicate it has been rated and should therefore be on the IFCO list).

Last secret screening I went to was Atomic Blonde, and that was a few days before official release date (screening was 7th August and the release date was 11th), so makes Hotel Artemis unlikely.

All-in-all, I think Dublin Oldschool is probably the film, but small chance its tag (run-time probably not and same release date) or Hotel artemis (run-time difference is negligible, but release date is probably too far away).

You are correct about Dublin Oldschool, I am just wondering how this is a 'see it first' scenario if that is the actual release date for that movie...

By the way, here is the further and conclusive proof that it's Dublin Oldschool:

New Scream Unseen next week. First 2 clues:

    1. "Injection role reversal"
    2. "Controlling mother and mean father"

One post on Letterboxd has a very good theory that it's Marrowbone:
"Controlling mother and mean father" - in marrowbone the parents are credited as 'mother' and 'father', the actress playing mother was in the film control and the actor playing father was in mean machine.

Trailer. Out in the States and on demand since April, apparently.

Very poor film. A couple of scares but otherwise pedestrian with an absurd set-up and a narrative with plot holes you could drive a bus through.

The regular one on the 28th "Previously mixed like The Beatles"

The Irish one has to be Black '47, right? Saw the trailer in the cinema tonight - it looks excellent.
Due for release on September 7th, so I think it could be a runner....
