Route J was the one mooted from the beginning and imo is still the most likely outcome.

The routes around Moate park to me look more like a smokescreen .No one is really talking about any other route as they are up in arms over moate park.

Either way the sooner it happens the better,it will make that stretch of road so much safer.Think AADT is close to 10k per day now in Knockcroghery village .

It might actually breathe some life back into Knockcroghery. A few speed ramps thrown in and it might be feasible to cross the road safely again.

Be no need for speed ramps ,the traffic passing through the village will be tiny when a bypass is done.A few hundred cars a day.

Preferred route for Ballymurray Knockroghery bypass due in August or early September
The selection of a preferred route for the Ballmurray Knockcroghery bypass will not be revealed until August or early September.
While a safety audit of the N61 towards Athlone is now delayed by almost a year and a half.

    Decision due this month.

Any bets on if the funding exists or not?

No idea if funding is there but this is the closest its ever came to getting done.Been talked about in various guises for 25+ years .

They seem to be making a big deal about how dangerous this road is so I'm optimistic that covid budget constraints haven't impacted it much.

The N5 road improvements are going ahead like.

wouldn't be the worst stretch of road in the county, but it will improve life for villagers

New website set up for this by the CoCo.

    Preferred route announced....and it's a doozy!

    https://n61roscommon.ie/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/N61BK-RODA-PC3-RO_C-3-DR-CH-20001-A0-Aerial_reduced.pdf

Going from the Athlone side of St.John's church all the way to Newtown and likely requiring a fair few CPOs and people losing their homes to the road from what I can see.

I haven't heard of any houses getting knocked but one particular area there may be a risk.
It will become clearer in the coming months.

The route/area they have marked out is iirc 300 feet wide, when the road/verge will be approx 45ft when completed.
What looks like it could be taking a house in reality could be a ok distance away.

That's a fair point. There will be a few who have gone from quiet boreen to right on a main road though.

I just had another closer look at this over the weekend and realised the level crossing at Curry is to be closed.
That will stop that road from being used as a rat-run to the Lanesboro Road and onto the Boyle Road but really cuts off the residents around there from Knockcroghery. Farmers will be really affected too as many probably farm land both sides of the railway.

The crossing at Killeenvoy near Culleen isn't to be closed either. Strange decision to close one and not the other.

Haven't heard anything about curry level crossing closing .

Why would it be closed ?I think you are mistaken.

Why? Dunno. But it's in the proposal.
Check out this map from the website

Note the cyan circle on Curry crossing? Now check the key in the bottom right to see what that denotes. Obviously the crossing on the N61 at Ballymurray is being closed.

If this affects you negatively, you should send in feedback to object to the closure of Curry crossing, although I believe the date for feedback has passed, it'd do no harm.

I never noticed them on the original plans . Doesn't make much sense to me,both are automatic gates and with traffic using the new road then Ballymurray crossing would have a tiny percentage using them and curry probably would see a some drop off.

    Doesn't particularly affect me .
