Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How much can I earn before I pay income tax?

    I'm looking for my first job, and I'll be working maybe 20 hours per week, if I earn 600 per month, how much tax would i have to pay?

    You probably won't be liable for tax at all.

    A standard individual pays PAYE after the threshold of 16,500.
    If you are earning under 13,000 as it would appear based on the above figures you are USC exempt.
    You won't be liable to PRSI as you are earning less than 352 per week.

    So enjoy your money! Congratulations on your first job, Make sure you have the employment registered with revenue so you don't get emergency taxed.

    The minimum wage from 1 Jan 2019 will be €9.80 an hour.

    That means that if you work 20 hours a week you should earn at least €196 a week or around €800 a month.

    At that income level you won't be liable to pay any PAYE, PRSI or USC!

    In which case his earnings will be even lower than what I quoted above so he'll definitely not be liable for PAYE, PRSI or USC! Which is what his post was asking about.

    Yeah, I was going to include a comment to that effect, but felt it was kicking a guy when he's down :( I mean not having to pay tax is nice and all, but I'd rather earn more and pay tax.
