Basic Sewing machine

Hi All, Looking for advice for this sewing machine to be available in Lidl later this week ..They dont give a model number , so cant check any reviews, was hoping that someone here might know better

I've stitched dresses years back on my mom's machine and haven't done any for a while now . Was looking to get a good one to get back into it. I'd be looking to make simple stuff like cushion covers and little dresses for dolls,teddies and so on . This one looks good, let me know if it isn't..

Reviews look good.

Maybe wait until January, I got this for my wife last year in the Argos sale for €160 and she loves it. Obviously way too expensive now..

I think it might be the 2282. Argos one mentioned above has less stitch options
Here's a review https://www.artisanstitch.co.uk/singer-tradition-2282-sewing-machine-review/ which suggests it's not too bad for the price

Thanks much .. That's really helpful info. I think I'm gonna try get it if I can get to Lidl on Thursday before they run out of them .

If you ring the Lidl customer service number and you ask them they'll be able to tell you. Also, if you look through their users' manuals and type "sewing machine" in the search, you should get a list of manuals of the models they sold before, usually they sell the same models at different times, you should recognise the one like the one on sale shortly from its picture. Shout if you need help with that.

Apparently the Singer machines sold in Lidl/Aldi are not of the same quality as those Singer sewing machines sold elsewhere.

I would suggest when choosing a basic machine - get one that has reasonable weight to it - very light ones can bounce around the place. Don't bother with loads of stitches. Look for straight, zigzag, buttonholes, possibly hemming. You are better getting a solid machine that does simple stuff well than paying for lots of stitches that you will not really use.

hi OP - I love sewing its like a form of meditation for me and so rewarding!
the satisfaction of seeing the end result, I do basic stuff, like zips, hemming, cushion covers and a variety of mending and alterations, for the home, family and friends.

A friend of mine bought a machine in either Lidl or Aldi, she rarely used it, as it has so many settings and stitches its not what one would call practical and user friendly, also very light.

My singer is and old one with an electric motor and it has only one stitch but will sew very strong fabrics. you would pick up a good secondhand on Done Deal or Adverts of FB ,get a friend to go with you, who has experience of using a sewing machine. that's what I would do!

That’s not really true. They’re the same machines that are sold elsewhere and are perfectly adequate for beginners or those not wanting to spend €€€ on a specialised embroidery machine.

I’m a member of a sewing forum and sew a variety of projects and I started off with a basic Singer Simple which has proved perfectly adequate for many years. I know have a computerised Brother and an Overlocker but my Singer is still used as it’s less fussy when I occasionally use cheaper quality materials/thread. My more expensive machine refuses to sew with cheap threads.
