Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The very first thing that strikes me about that ad is that it looks like a high school class end of the year presentation. The whole thing looks, sounds and feels amateurish, ham fisted and downright cookie cutter; A case study in "this topic is so hot right now, let's do it!".

It could almost be part of a social experiment - one could make a few of these ads, each targeting a specific group (men, women, Muslims, Catholics, LGBT and whatever else) and gauge which ones cause outrage and which ones are more controversial and/or more or less justifiable in the public's eye. I think I know the results of this experiment already, but I'm willing to be surprised.

Well to get a key understanding of what happens now we only have to look at the world of gaming. Allot of developers are substituting decent development of IP and a customer first approach with near yearly reskins of existing IP and a crap ton of micro transactions thrown on top, the only way they have to differentiate in their eyes is by being woke.

The saying is through though, get woke go broke. Case in point is EA who have been putting out fires since Battlefront 2/Andromeda, there most recent title Battlefield 5 they literally told fans that if they didn't like their brand of history (re-writes to put women in the picture) that they shouldn't buy the game.

Guess what happened with battlefield 5? It has had the worst sales of all battlefields in the series and is more than likely in a nose dive as it introduces microtransactions ect.

The joke of it all is these companies don't give a **** about anything but the green and allot of consumers are starting to see them for what they are. Still though there are plenty of soyboys who are still drinking the kool-aid and think something like this is a progressive step.

THIS is how an ad encourages positive masculinity -- by praising the good in men, not by portraying men as mostly a bunch of jerks.

Uses the Gillette ad as a starting point, though isn't particularly critical of the ad itself.

There was another article earlier in the week wondering what the fuss was about the ad but I didn't think it was worth posting.

That opinion piece can easily be summed up in this specific passage:

    I've got sons...[cut]

Take the most hard stance, uncompromisingly irrational feminist, give her a son and see her stance take a steep detour as she figures out it's not exactly a rose garden on the other side of the wall.

She told Welt how one journalist had asked her whether she warned players to put their pants on when she entered the dressing room.

"Of course not, I'm a professional," she responded, sarcastically. "I pick my players based on their penis size."

Now I realise she is being witty, but from what I understand from this is she just enters the dressing room whenever she wants ...
imagine the uproar if a male manager of a female team did the same ...

Yes 34 women to 5 men in our work place and we're not let in on most of the work related news, gossip.

Previous job myself and another male were forced by 'tradition' to make tea for 15 ladies every afternoon. I rebelled. No more tea parties in the afternoon, was ostracised!

Nothing new there sure look at American sports with the number of female reporters and cameras in male changing rooms but none allowed in female ones

A potential problem is compared to the past a higher proportion of women have no sons due to having children later, smaller families when they do have children and more women never having children.

also more girls never having brothers too and growing up not being able to empathise with boys

Discrimination is discrimination, it's not that one can just add "positive" in front of a concept that is implicitly negative and pretend all is A-OK; How does "positive racism" sound like? But hey, "it's job places reserved for <insert ethnicity here> as they are underrepresented!". Pure bullsh1t, and this is official business. We're screwed.

There is however a tiny bit of sense in the article from Louise McGirr:

“Positive action is not ring-fencing posts for people of a protected characteristic (ie in this case female) but you can give preference to an underrepresented characteristic (women in this case) all other things being equal and the candidates being equal on merit,”

As ironic as this would be, being the exact equal and opposite of the kind of "discrimination" that is alleged to be happening (women being refused opportunities on the basis of being women), at least it ain't completely idiotic - applying this with logic and honesty, the best candidates will still be getting the jobs regardless of having a willy or not.

That said, I'm still waiting for the big push to get more men in childcare, education and nursing and more women on construction sites, workshops and mining...

Are women being refused opportunity on the basis they are women? I don't think that is happening is it?

    Jesus Christ!!

I came across this article today, it is very worrying, these are professionals that people in time of need turn to.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/10/science/apa-traditional-masculinity-harmful.html

As crazy as it might sound...masculinity is well and truly under attack...there will be no winners!
I just finished the 4th guideline and am reading no more.
Masculinity, according to those guidelines, is nothing but bad. It is only a negative force and must be worked against.

    Some excerpts:
Masculinity increases the likelihood that you will commit intimate partner violence.
Your masculinity will increase your wife's likelihood of depression.
Masculinity will not allow you to form same-sex friendships.
The only cure for an aspects of masculinity is to get involved in Social Justice activities.

TL;DR If you're a white, cisgender male, masculinity is bad and causes a lot of problems for everyone else.

That anger isn’t directed at anyone here in case you misread those posts, it’s directed at the people responsible for

    1) A disgustingly sexist advert.
    2) Some Twitter mong saying she wants to kill all men.

It’s ok to be passionate in disliking something you know, there is no point in being nice and civilised about these issues anymore, particularly when every facet of the male gender is being attacked from all sides.

That’s a perfectly acceptable response to someone who can come out with bull**** statements like “kill all men and then kill them again”. I’d say the same to any man who made a similar statement to that - if you’ve got a big enough mouth to say something like that, you should have the (excuse the pun) balls to say it in a real life situation and suffer whatever consequences come from that.

Sure and I would agree, but it does illustrate something wider in society. Namely how far do you think a male reporter for a national newspaper would last if as a joke they tweeted "all women are scum" "all women must die" "slit women's throats"? The chances of him keeping his job would be slim and the chances are pretty high that he'd likely get a call from the authorities.
