Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Squeeky Hard wood floors

    Hi All,

We bought a bungalow last year, it was built in 2000. We are currently doing up a spare bedroom, the hardwood floor is very squeeky has small gaps and a slight bow to it. We managed to get all the hard wood up undamaged. It had been put down with secret nails on top of 12mm of plywood, underneath the plywood is a solid concrete floor (we had a bore hole done elsewhere and are happy that there is a damp course and insulation under it). Im wondering what is the best method to follow to ensure the concrete is level prior to relaying the wooden floor. Want to make sure we solve the squeeky floor problem. Dont want to raise the level of the floor as it is currently the same level as the hardwood in the hall etc

    Thanks in advance

There are various latex self-levelling compounds available, e.g. http://www.irishflooring.ie/product_info.php?products_id=7718 Squeaky floors may be down to screws / nails being insufficiently tight.

Thanks Victor, I was looking at self levelling compunds alright, I suppose how thin that layer would be depends of the amount of uneveness in the concrete? (a consideration as Id prefer not to increase the overall level of the floor

I was wondering if there would be any need to put a thicker layer of plywood down over the self levelling compound, the current 12mm seems a bit flimsy? Again Id prefer not to..... But main aim is to get rid of the noisy floor

As I understand it, the latex goes over the plywood, although that might only be with raised timber floors. You will need to check the instructions.
