Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

48 hours will take a recurring payment of a tenner a month from u, but you have to top up extra by I think 3 euros extra in order to pay to ring a uk number.
Ringing uk numbers and those premium numbers/texts is outside of your plan.

Whereas gomo automatically charges u the extra in your next bill if u went outside of your plan

Could always ring on whatsapp for free?

    Must be feeling the heat.

    Off the Vodafone X thread
Was originally announced no limit then quickly changed to below.
However, despite insisting that there will be no ‘fair use’ limit applied to the plans, the company is now saying that if anyone’s use of the unlimited data is “excessive” it might restrict their usage of it.
The company has yet to define what an “excessive” usage limit for an “unlimited” data service is.

Given its stance on tethering, the operator has signalled that it will not stop someone living in an area with a strong signal replacing their home broadband service with the unlimited data service, regardless of how many 4K movies or devices use the single data source.

However, it doesn’t recommend doing this.

Initially I didn't receive an email saying the order was shipped so I reordered. I got an email on Friday saying the sim was dispatched and received it on Wednesday. Easy to set up. Porting of my number took only 20 minutes. Let's hope the data allowance is enough!

There was also €1 credit in the sim when I received it which was needed in order to set up Facetime and iMessage.

Was with 48 when they first came out (I was probably 20 or 21 at the time when they had the age restriction at first!!) and then moved around networks before going with VF the last 2 or 3 years. Since they are changing my plan to 10MB/s next month I was thinking of cutting costs and having a look around again. Currently on the 20 a month X unlimited weekends plan.

In South Meath home and South Dublin work so used to having full 4g excellent signal. Also handy when abroad when VF being able to use my phone without any extra charges etc, leave the data roaming turned on (won't be going anywhere anytime soon but for the future!!)

Would the 14.99 40gb plan be the safe bet? I use 20-30gb a month but can reduce it if I just turn on Wi-Fi at home and work. What's the Internet speeds around Dublin /Meath? Would I have access to 3Plus as they are a parent company? This vs Gomo? Any other niggles or advice? Just waiting on an unlock code from VF and keeping the options open... Thanks.

Got the 48 sim today. Must say porting and customer care are Excellent vs GoMo. But does anyone now have LTE in place of 4G in their phones display?

What's the main reason people would change from Gomo to 48 right now?

I have LTE on mine but speed seemed ok so I am not overly concerned.

I changed to 48 rather than Gomo for a few reasons.

    1. 48 is Prepay so you have control over how much money comes out of your card.

    2. I have read some terrible reviews about Gomo charging people much more than the €9.99/€12.99 they advertise.

    3. I read that 48's customer service was better than Gomo's. Again, they seem to get some pretty bad reviews.

I really hope I will not regret changing to 48. Time will tell!!

Do I just request the port via 48 or do I need to contact 3 and close my account/cancel my direct debit?

You request the port via 48 when you register the sim.

been with 48 since the start

I'd say the happiest experience i've had with any service provider

have never raised the price, in I suppose 6 years, but have improved the product incrementally

customer service has been excellent, moved multiple people onto it

10 euros a month for at least 6 years, you can't be overcharged, so no roaming data issues, premium text issues etc

Signal is fine, In the Dublin area but also down the country on a regular basis.

Signal is hard to quantify as for any carrier it can be good in one spot bad in another

The Country especially is just a lottery of tower location.

I get exactly the same speeds etc as on 3 sim, for what that's worth

Think the accounts are done by mobile numbers, so you can only have one per account/phone number/email. But shouldn't be a problem to set him up with another SIM card/email. If you refer/"recruit" him too you should also both get a month free - speaking of which, all of you in the thread should be referring each other to get the most out of this. I've just updated the referral thread with my link - you should all use/update this for SIMs to get free months on top of the decent price. does voice mail work ok & is it free to listen to messages ?

should have my sim in a few days

I am with 48 since the start too. You get what you pay for in my opinion with them.
I have always found the internet slow when using mobile data but i think it may have been upgraded recently.
Signal can be a little patchy at times but same with them all.
Im still happy with it though as its been 10 euro a month for 6 years with not one cent extra taken or overcharged etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,797 ✭✭✭rizzee

Got the dispatch email for free sim. Got my iPhone unlock code yesterday so will pop the new sim in when it comes to unlock. My Vodafone plan doesn't run out for 2 weeks, can I test the new sim in the phone at home/work to see signal and then decide a couple of days after to move my number to that sim or do you have to activate it immediately?

I also read you can stack memberships- can I pay say 30 euro and not have to worry about topping up for 3 months??

What's the site like for checking out data used, minutes etc? (Interface /navigation)

    Short codes...
    https://community.48.ie/t5/The-Knowledgebase/Handy-short-codes/ta-p/988

    *100# Your account balance
    *100*1# Remaining land line minutes
    *100*2# Remaining mobile calls allowance
    *100*3# Remaining texts allowance
    *100*4# Roaming minutes left (Outgoing)
    *100*5# Roaming minutes left (Incoming)
    *100*6# Roaming texts left
*100*8# How much internet you have left

I am on 48months.ie "The Don" package for €20.

    For that I get

    20GB data (4G)
    1000 mobile minutes
    60 landline minutes
Unlimited Whatsapp (not taken from data allowance)
Free SMS (there is a charge for MMS)

I confirmed with them that the 300 minutes they have reduced both packages too, is for both landline and mobile calls, and that whatsapp is now taken from data allowance.

I see the option to switch minutes for data, but not the other way around. I don't see an option to buy an Add-On for more minutes, either.

I think I'll stay with my legacy plan for another while yet. I don't need 40GB data, but I think reducing from 1060 minutes per month to 300 is a lot.

Just click the app and it's all there on front page.

Well, app is being updated at that min.

    Good app though.

Yep, think so, the sim I got (which I haven't yet opened) says it's just included.

Is it necessary to explicitly cancel with 48 if switching the number away to another provider? The in-laws are switching to Virgin, as the availability of phone support is worth the fiver a month extra.

    No email, nothing. Frustrating.

Received sim a couple of days ago and activated free data. Very poor speed at home, out and about not too bad but not on par with vodafone

Can't make calls but it does pick up calls every where Vodafone does.

I'm out in the sticks in the Midwest area, still not decided if I'll port over or not. Use WiFi at home so data speeds there not vital.

Sim arrived before I went to work. I was in testing on 2 dual sim devices.Redmi Note 5 and Redmi 8

    Note 5:
    Vodafone Galway city centre
    D:119. U:80
    48.ie
    D:70. U:40

    Vodafone ,Galway county east(Athenry,Loughrea)
    D:6.8. U:0.78
    48.ie
    D:22.13 U: 3.13

    Redmi 8:
    Vodafone Galway city centre
    D:109 U: 77
    48.ie
    D:80. U:33

All results In Mbps with Ookla speedtest app.

Could not believe speed with Vodafone was so $hite even when I had 4G+ on my phone at work. Will port over my kid after work for sure and the rest when our Vodafone bundle expire

This is ridiculous. It keeps telling me I can't order a SIM because I'm outside Ireland.

    I've tried on:
    - via broadband
    - via broadband with Irish VPN
    - mobile on wifi
    - mobile (on Three!)

And in incognito mode on all of them.

Is their site just knackered? This isn't very confidence inspiring

Only thing I can think of is find someone with a different mobile connection and hot-spot off their phone?

Cheers, I know some of the old UPC IPs show up as being in Holland, so figured that might be it.

But if they're owned by Three, and they can't recognise Three mobile data as being in Ireland, think I'll steer clear.
