    Freeway FTW

Lidl cola is actually pretty good to be fair. You can tell it has real sugar in it. Don't know how anyone drinks diet fizzy drinks , you can taste the pure plasticky artificialness off it.

That also contains sweeteners, as well as sugar. It was a big let down when I found out.

    I've changed over years .

I think as you get older you realise the sugar in traditional Coca Cola is just not sustainable. Fair enough if you get it a once off, holiday , bar , error. It is the nicest in the right circumstances and drink preparation. Glass bottles etc.

For a few years went to diet and zero. Just habitual for caffeine hit.

Have moved more and more to pepsi . Then to max as that 50 % free bottle whilst hard to find . Is class.

As you get older again your taste needs more a hit . And fentimans is class . Hard to get and probably harder again with Brexit.

It reminds you of what coke may have been like originally in drug stores.

To be honest most modern companies have made a mess of their food / drink products. Why hipster products in the spaces are opening up more.

I liked Vigin and a few fake Colas too.

Anyway all the plastic is a disgrace ..no getting away from.that.

A lot of people criticise Lucozade for tasting so different these days but i honestly didnt notice any change.
So, compared to the 1980s when it was probably stuffed with more sugar than today, there probably is a difference but i dont think its a game changer not to drink it anymore- its still fizzy and gives you a great hit.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,826 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

...there really is no difference between Coke and Coke Zero.

Ah there is though. I can clearly tell the difference between the 3. The closest I came to actual coke was that Coke Life that was out for a while. It was basically Coke but less sugar instead of no sugar. But still didn't taste like coke.

Quite annoyed the other night I got an Abra takeaway, large CBG and large Katsu Curry chips, lare Diet Coke. All in a bag and didn't realise until I got to start eating it that i got a bottle of Coke Zero... [insert Hercules "Disappointed"]

What annoys me about Lucozade is it’s supposed to be an energy drink. And now there are zero calorie versions, on what planet does that make sense?

First they came for the socialists...

Original Coke is superior to Pepsi .

Fritz Kola and Fentiman Cola are both lovely but not too easy buy here.

Dr.Pepper is absolute piss water .

Both of them are disgusting syrupy gloop.

Some chilled water with winter herbs is a far more satisfying drink.

Diabetics with a hypo used to rely on a small bottle of it.
    Now that's changed.

    To add to this debate.

7up -vs- Sprite -vs- Mountain Dew

Fanta -vs- Club -vs- other orange drink.

Sprite is too fizzy but tastes better.

    All things fanta are terrible

Which tastes better, which do you prefer?

    Pepsi all the way.
    It tastes so much better.

Possibly the reason for that for me is that it was only one of that two available when I was a small child.
My granddad used to get ma a bottle of pepsi on special occasions, and it was a real treat. Coca Cola was not available in my country due to political situation, so I didn't have a chance to taste it until I was about 9 years old.
That's a simple reason why I'm so much more into pepsi than coke.

And I'm not interested in all low/none sugar stuff. Diet, zero, max, etc...
I think they all taste awful.
I prefer to drink a proper can of pepsi even if it's only once a month, than drinking this awfull desugared drinks....

My automatic response was ewww, but then I remembered that water gives me indigestion so that's a no from me!

Fanta Cassis (blackcurrant, of course, not available here) is actually really nice. I tasted it years ago while in Amsterdam and loved it. As did my friendzoned BFF at the time. Ended up importing a crate of it for her bday the next year.

    But yeah, it's lovely.

Country Spring Cola, now that was horrible stuff! Probably even worse than Cadet Cola.
For me Coke is a lot nicer than Pepsi. None of the Diet or Zero drinks taste good thanks to the sweeteners and Pepsi Max is really overrated.

I remember 30 years ago when my local Crazy Prices in Roxboro Limerick had Lockwood's Cola. It came in the old pull top cans and it was only 20p. It was lovely stuff. I haven't seen it anywhere since then though. Crazy Prices also sold KVI brand cola which was the devil's rusty water. Dreadful stuff!!

Not a big fan of normal Pepsi or Coke but Pepsi Max is the best of all the diet drinks by a long shot.

An ice cold can of Coke is a beautiful thing.

Freezing cold can of coke is your only man

Stay away from that Rola Cola stuff they sell in lidl. More useful if you want to use it as some kind of paint/wallpaper stripper

That rings a bell. I think there were bottles and cans on offer and in regular and diet versions and the taste was actually decent for something you would expect to be crap.
Tried googling it but no joy.

Would be refreshing if the next Cold war/ Clash of civilizations/etc. was Cola based.

St Bernard's used to be Dunnes' own brand for everything, from food to clothing (jus like St Michael's for M&S). I think they had the normal version in red cans, and the diet in white ones, but I've a niggling thought that it wasn't just the one brand of cola that they had... my memory is shot. :|

They had the lemon and lime ‘Fizz Up’ not too long after. Was recalled later though, it went an unsettling yellow colour if it was left in the sun.

Didn’t affect the taste, as far as I know, but wouldn’t have fancied trying it.

    The tide is turning…

Was in Sainsbury's doing shopping and saw these Coca Cola mixers for spirits, never seen them before (I'm probably late to the party........!)

Anyone tried them? Wonder how far from normal coke they taste.

I had them a few years ago, the herbal one was ok. Rest were bad particularly the spicy one which was vile stuff.

    Coke Zero definitely.
Virgin Cola was beautiful back in the day. Wonder why it was shelved?
