I don't see the 'remake' angle; unless it's the same family from the original movie, it reads more like a sequel than a reboot?

Either way, usual comments about reboots and latterday sequels apply: the original follow-ups to Poltergiest couldn't keep the standard, so I don't see why this new film will fare any better.

The original still holds up so well; such a beautiful example of how effective a PG Horror film can be, how creative old-school FX were, and the closest to a Spielberg horror film we're ever likely to see...

I'm getting very, very tired of all the remakes.

There isn't an original thought left in their heads.

The famous beam of flickering light coming from the closet was achieved by backlighting a fishtank full of water and blowing a fan across it to make the ripple effect, simple but brilliant. now it'd be CGI overload.

There's tonnes of original thoughts. Some of the best scripts in Hollywood are unproduced ones. When corporations take over a business (film in this case), if risk isn't necessary to get bums on seats, they why go out of your way to take that risk?

They have no urge to express their creativity. They just want to make money for the shareholders.

A trailer has come out for this; full of lame jump scares but that could just be how the trailer was cut. I didn't get much of a sense this remake is even trying to take the property in a new direction, though Jared Harris' Oirish accent was fairly noteworthy.

"Must watch the original again" is what pops into my head every time I hear about a new remake, and then normally not watch the remake.

(I watched Robocop and Robocop 2 before watching its remake. Lesson learnt, will continue to avoid watching the remakes.)

So i'll probably skip this one, but watch the original again soon, I think It must be over 15 years ago since I seen Poltergeist.

I remember not really enjoying the original when it all kicked off in the last 3rd, but up to that point it was great.

as much as I love Jared Harris the role should be played by a little southern woman, maybe Linda Hunt

I actually expected her to be in the film when I heard of this remake.

They gave away alot of the jump scares in that trailer.

Havent seen a thread for this yet? Has anyone gone to it here ? Wold you recommend it? Is it worth watching in 3d?

Yeah I saw it last night. It's grand, entertaining enough. Although if you've seen the original there's actually no point in going to this. Not that it's as good though. This seems more like a TV movie compared to the original which had a more grandiose, epic feel to it. But look, if you've never seen the original it's worth going to.

I enjoyed this, I'm a big fan of the original and I think this is a good attempt at a "remake".
It doesn't have much of the charm of the original but I'd never expect it to, it does stand alone as a solidly entertaining film and there are one or two excellent scenes.
The one part I mainly had a problem with was
The specialist theuy call in with the ropey irish accent, not a patch on Zelda in the original

The biggest problem I had with this remake was it felt like a 90 minute advert for Apple.

The remake was scene for scene except the Mod Cons were updated. An iPhone, iPad and iMac all feature heavily throughout the film.

One way to waste away 90 minute. Nothing to write home about. Some jump out of your chair moments, but it lacked the ominous feel of the original.
