Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Asking a girl out in a mad way

Hi - So basically I go to work on the Luas every morning and there is this fine looking woman who I think keeps giving me the eye. And I want to ask her out!

But on the Luas (Red line outbound) there are loads of people and I can't ask he out face to face in front of everyone. And she always has earphones in.

So I decided to write out a note on a post it and give it to her either tomorrow morning or the morning after. Not wait for a response but drop it in her lap. This is what I wrote, is it a mad idea? Opinions welcome thanks! Me 33 her about 26. Both Irish. I know after hours is humorous interested in some creative opinions!

    Hi,
I wanted to ask you out since the first time I saw you, but it's difficult on the Luas where everyone can listen!🙂 Not to mention a bit embarrassing lol. 🙂
My number is 08xxxxxxxx so TXT me!🙂

    My name

Lol? TXT? Are you really 33? More like 16. Is that meant to be an emojI?

    Hey,
My name is X. I think you're beautiful. Would you like to go for a drink sometime this week?
    My number is 08whatever.
    Say hi.

Give her a "voucher" for a free coffee, and put your number on the back.

Got that idea here years ago, still love it to this day :D

Do some sexy dancing, on the luas, in front of her. See how it goes down.

    Don't throw a post-it at her ffs.

Just speak to the girl like a person of 33 should be able to, don't slip her a note like you're in a 3rd year geography class.

Oh go for it. You only live once. Maybe you should flirt back a little see what she does.

I don,t see why you can,t ask her out do. Its not like everyone else will hear must probably also have earphones in or are reading etc and even if they do its none of there business really is it.

You could try chatting to her first do before you decide to do the note. Maybe say Hi I have noticed you looking at me would you be interested in chatting. Whats the worst she can say except no and well then at least you tried.

Another way is you could get creative and do a dance maybe or some exercise or sometime to get her attention and then hand her your note its up to you really. I think you need to write more in the note do maybe a short poem about how she brightens up your morning everytime you see her on the Luas something like that.

Good luck whatever you decide to do hope it works out and sure if not then there are plenty more fish in the sea.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Get a guitar and serenade her. I find Yellow by Coldplay usually does the trick and with any luck you'll go viral.

Do you get the exact same luas with her from the exact same stop at the exact same time every morning? If so why not go up to her and say hello. If she has been noticing you it will seem natural and obvious that you came up to her. If she looks confused as though you were looking for someone, pull her hair, run away screaming and never turn up to work ever again

And he must bring a trumpet to honk out that chorus bit. She'll be incapable of resisting having some random dude approach her singing 'will you go to bed with me' followed by blasting a trumpet at her.

If it ends badly you will have to get a new route in the morning. Totally not worth it if you have to wake up 15 minutes earlier every day.

She might be one of those types that will accuse you of misogyny and the likes too. You'll end up being the subject of a blog or a skewed Facebook post

Seriously. Do not approach a woman you don't know on public transport. It is a dreadful idea.

"Giving the eye" in public transport is not the same as "giving the eye" in a pub/club at night.

Buy 2 coffees 1 americano 1 latte in the coffee shop beside the stop at the back of the Jervis - if thats where you get on. Ask if she'd like the latte or americano. Simple.

Life is short, go for it, although I;d say maybe try to strike up a conversation rather than a note.

If the Luas wasn't so packed all the time, I'd give this a go

He could have it on his phone, volume up full, and lip-sync it to her while lapdancing his way up the Luas to where she's sitting. I don't know if Luaseseseses have poles, but he could swing around one for effect if they do.

    Bound to win her over.

I'd go with the note as well but short and simple - name and number.

First though get one of those 'The Man - The Legend' t-shirts , put your two hands on your hips and slooooowly wink at her. They love that

It may make your day but assuming that you're not the woman in question, it could make someone feel incredibly uncomfortable and perhaps unsafe.

How can a person feel unsafe on public transport, surrounded by other people? Maybe it'd make her a little uncomfortable at most but that's easily remedied by saying 'not interested'. Shes making regular eye-contact with the guy, so she probably likes him back.

You don't have to be a pensioner to have nice chats with strangers either, some of the best chats I've ever had have been on transport or in queues with total strangers.

OP, If youre conservative about the outcome and want to win more than you want to pat yourself on the back for trying then you need a proper plan.

Do you know which stop she gets off at or where she works , lunches etc ?

Jesus Christ have we become that bad in this day and age that two strangers can't communicate?! I talk to strangers every single day and I never feel unsafe as it's always somewhere public like on public transport/in a supermarket/in the gym etc.

The last thing he should do is stalk her to her work or where she eats.

That would ring alarm bells all over the place with her, if she has any sense. He approaches her where he usually encounters her or he doesn't at all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 91 ✭✭BsBox

So here's my perspective as a gay guy who has heard every story under the sun from girls getting approached by guys:

Some people would be kind of uncomfortable being approached on public transport. I know personally, I wouldn't want people coming up to me most of the time on the bus/Luas, and I can't even count the number of times I've heard my friends landing in the door with a story about some 'weird' guy on the bus/Luas talking to them. That doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, but you need to be fairly mindful of how the other person might feel about the whole thing.

The post it note will either be considered cute, or absolutely freaky. You may think she's eyeing you up, but she could be listening to her headphones and “staring“ at you without actually looking at you. I know I do this a lot accidentally when I'm on public transport.

Your best bet is to wait until you're sitting/standing fairly close to her, and smile at her. If it's a large smile back, maybe point at your ears and then hers to highlight the headphones and then ask her what she's listening to. Maybe mention you're always looking for new music to find. Introduce yourself. Go from there. There's no easy way to break the ice like this, and confidence is absolutely key. How you hold yourself will make or break the introduction.

tl;dr - Whatever you do, be extra mindful about how she might feel. Don't throw a note at her. Don't assume she likes you or is actually eyeing you up. Don't be weird.
    AMKC wrote: »

This is a terrible idea. Please don't say this, and definitely don't phrase anything you do say like that.

Edit: Also note, she might be looking at you because she's thinking in her head, “why does this guy keep looking over at me?“.

Not if hes discreet. Its not stalking either. In business terms its chasing a lead to make a sale and close a deal. It always involves consent. If you like someone you try to find a way to get to know them. The LUAS could be full of junkies. She could be a cranky non morning person. She may be a wallflower who doesnt like the whole world listening into an awkward cold approach. Theres so many variables and different ways to warm up the approach. OP doesnt have to rule anything out. Its all about which ball he feels most confident about running with.
