If you are going there you have to be really carfull as i heard the devil has been seen there. I cant confirm but sources close to me have said that he is "evil" but does enjoy a game of cards.

If you do see somebody there there are sign's weather or not he is the devil . He will be red in appearence with distintive horns pertruding from his head. He is between 5 foot 6 to 5 foot 9.

One thing that cought most peoples attention was his distinctive legs which are red and hairy with hooves for feet. He has also been known not to wear any trousers.

haha I see, yes one of the myths I've heard.Just curious about the place.Heading out to malahide castle tonight with a few peeps to the graveyard to see if we can get activity.

I have never ever had any ghostly experiences so I'm dying for one

It's interesting enough as a historical building without attributing anything ghastly to it.

I was up there last night in the storm. Just to be warned that there is a homless drug addict living up there. Probably on his summer holidays from camping in Dublin.

    Made a very swift exit.

i used to bring my dog for a walk up there as im local. Its spooky enough in the day as not many around but in the evening its a scary place and not just with all the scumbag kids up there drinking! Lot of people sleep up there as a dare. The forrests around kilkea there are supposed to be haunted by a black panther sized cat. Also theres a building just before the entrance on the road that was a restraunt for ages (think its closed now), thats supposed to be haunted too. My dads friend was the manager there. Lot of strange things happened in it, they found the body of a dwarf in the foundations or wall (cant remember) and they had him buried and the blessed. Seemed to calm the place down. Further up the road theres the bog land, lot of bodies buried there from IRA times, also a group of finians were killed by the british army dury a rebellion. Its a very interesting area.

Are you sure he was not a spirit of a druggy ? Did you have your PKE meter with you to scan him ? ?

Hehe :) if it's who I think it is, his firstname is David (I won't give his second name). We used to hang around together when we were teenagers until he went off the rails on a permanent lsd high. He's a harmless enough lad.

We used to go picking magic mushrooms up around and not far from there as kids, he swore he saw a little boy with a huge dog with red eyes one night and the boy talked to him. When he went off his head he would sometimes just go up there on his own to (in his words now...) "talk to the little boy".

I'm only presuming that's him up there now still, given it's now coming into the season for magic mushrooms, I'm guessing he's made his residence close to the best place to pick them.

Stories of the dwarf? Please do tell. Might be me, I am very short for my age and a tad trollish.

Well there are a few passage graves up there that have been disturbed. Probably some associated prehistoric burial found during the building of the place or subsequent activity....

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,406 ✭✭✭DyldeBrill

I was up there today for a walk with my friend and I saw a memorial stone there that said David (wont say lastname) 1943-2002. That wouldnt be him would it?

The place was pretty dark and cold but it was a nice sunny day out today so wasnt scary. Atmospheres very heavy in there prob due to the altitude. Great view!

No, he'd be a fair bit younger than that now :) would've been born in the 70's.

I emailed the company running the tour after reading this board! It's OK the Garda are going to be up there + security, and we will be leaving the mountain at 8:30 so the ravers are welcome to it after then

It's not just the Hell Fire Club building that attracts headers on Halloween night, you have a wooded area directly behind the site that is used extensively for drinking and you also have people who are into witchcraft that use the place at night time, especially around Halloween.

If you have any doubts, just take a walk up and check out the woods behind the house, see all the still smouldering campfires and the remanants of the party lying all around...

I think whoever planned on bringing people up this route after dark, have not done their homework. Also there is no evidence whatsoever that this building is haunted, I've been up in the Hell Fire Club hundreds and hundreds of times as I used to live at the foot of Montpelier Hill, I've been up there in the morning, noon and night and I've never seen anything paranormal.

I think the video on the website for this tour of some lad "putting it up" to an imaginary spirit is absolutely laughable.

Also, for the avoidance of doubt, there was no "demonic statue and dwarf skeleton" found in the Hell Fire Club building or anywhere near it. These items were apparently associated with alleged poltergeist activity within the Kilakee House building right beside the Hell Fire Club car park, nearly a mile of a walk from the Hell Fire Club building at the top of the hill.

This is a completely separate story, nothing whatsoever to do with the Hell Fire Club...

I always wonder why the hell fire clubs are meant to be haunted/eveil etc. Is it because of the word 'hell' in the title?

These clubs were made up of rich people with fcuk all else to do but drink and debauch. that's it. no evil, no demons - just stories so people wouldnt disturb them.

good man - ive been waiting ages for someone to tell me of a half decent recent sighting and or paranormal occurance in the hell fire club. Please share the stories that are most recent ... love to hear one of them as I havent been able to find one that sounds halfway believable.

been going up there for the last 30 odd years with family and the dogs for walks. been in there on my own with no one around but the dog and never had any experiences. Its just a errie place because its a burnt out shell with some dark rooms. Worst thing is the smell of piss and broken glass. The woods around are scarier when your alone but thats just human instinct of being eaten by an animal :)

kilakee house is supposed to be haunted so stop off there on the way up

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,784 ✭✭✭KungPao

It's a mildly interesting place. I used to live near it, about a 45 minute walk from my house to the club.

I think the name is ridiculous tbh, I'm fairly sure The Hellfire Club is not the original name....someone just made it up and made up some silly stories about the Devil.

I mean come on, THE DEVIL himself visited some building on the top of a hill on the outskirts of Dublin. I'm sure Satan has better things to do.

There is nothing supernatural/paranormal about this place, it's just a little creepy because of its location, surrounded by woods.

I'd say he popped by as he happened to be in the neighbourhood either on his way to, or on his way back from Loftus Hall. Apparently he done the same thing in both places, so zero marks there for creativity for oul nick.

being from tallaght im well used to these stories, ledg has it that a few guys were in the hellfire club laying cards and one of them dropped a card on the floor, he bent down to pick up the card from under the table, and he noticed that one of them had hoofs instead of feet, hence the devil story,

that certainly seems to be a common irish ghost story

Has there been much done to the building?

I presume the windows had glass originally and the stairs looks like it's modern and not the original one.
