Xbox Headset Discussion

hi all, my son has xbox 1 s and he plays fortnite. The problem im having is with his headset, sometimes it works and then the next day it just stops. I think ive tried every setting or video on utube to sort it but I cant get it. Even if he cant talk, he can hear the game and his friends talking. some of the setting I have tried:
xbox home screen - mic pix with no line through it
Audio - setting -mic on
Setting - General -audio - headset - stereo
Device - controller assigned to his account

Game: settings - Audio - on, open mic , party , on.
also tried resetting xbox by holding power button down for 10 seconds. I also tried changing his settings to teenager, but still nothing.

I bought him a new headset thinking that was the problem, Trust T22207, but the same problem.

really hoping you can help me...he's driving me mad!!

Same problem here....no rhyme nor reason to it. One of my kids will have no issues, while the other can't talk with anyone. The next day it's fine.

I'm pretty sure it's tied in to all the cross-platform stuff. I don't think they have issues when they're just in an xbox live party with other xbox users.

Are you plugging into the controller audio port by any chance? My lad has been through multiple controllers with the 3.5mm audio port constantly breaking.

If so, go through the Microsoft support steps and when you get to the part where you tell them what the problem is the 3.5mm port will be an option you can select. As soon as you select that it goes straight to issuing you a return label, no questions asked. 2 weeks later you've a brand new controller. I think Microsoft are well aware there is a flaw in the design.

can you use the Arctis 9x wirelessly with bluetooth on PC? Its says on the site you need to buy the dongle, but you can use it wirelessly with your phone over bluetooth?

I use it daily with bluetooth to windows 10 (no dongle). Tried it to android phone worked fine too.

I haven't figured out what the wireless dongle brings on windows.

Have to agree with the comments on the 9X, as I bought a set before Christmas for 130 when they were on offer in Argos. Very comfortable but not amazing volume compared to other head phones but the features and comfort make up for that. Unfortunately mine developed an issue and when I returned them, they didn't have any left in stock at the time.

Also using Philips Fidelio x2hr with Vmoda mic and its got a lovely sound stage due to being open back but they leak a lot of sound and even though rated at 30ohm, they really do benefit from an amp/dac. Recently saw them on offer for 89 sterling but they are back at full price. They are heavy though, but comfortable with the floating headband and massive in size but the velour ear pads are really warm but they can be changed easily.

Lucidsound Ls35x were my latest ones. Really good sound with Dolby Atmos even on stock atmos settings, incredible volume but lacking an EQ like the LS30. Quiet a bit of compression from the clamping force of headband on each side of your head compared to the Ls30. Also the headband design appeared a bit fragile. Even with the latest firmware, they randomly would give an incredibly loud static type crackle and no matter what I did, it came back, randomly. So they are gone back to Amazon. I prefer the fit of the 30's on lowest size but as CIAB said, they get warm.

Looking for something new maybe Audeze wireless or Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser 599,ect or something different but if get a pair of 9x at the right price I might try them again as they were super comfortable and I really liked being able to BT my phone at the same time.

Some good cheap Turtle Beach one's that should do the job. Or a pair of Hyperx Cloud Stingers.

I second this. Have had Turtle Beach Recon 50 and 70, as well as HyperX Cloud Stinger and Stinger Core. All have served the kids pretty well, but it's probably worth the few extra quid for the more expensive variants, rather than the absolute cheapest.

I would recommend wireless if you can. The 3.5mm port is prone to breaking.

Pretty easy to do and was a great success. Well worth the few minutes it took.

Ok got the Turtle beach 70 last time and by all accounts was happy, except where the lead connects to the head set split with a lot of movement (kids!) and when they have it on it kind of bends by pressing off their shoulders. Also the odd time I use them the headset is a tad small for adults.

BUT... the sound quality was fairly good for what you pay for but the mic quality was pretty good.

So... I'm tempted to buy another pair and risk the same issue again... or something else under the eur50 bracket.

Any recommendations?

Ah screw it, decided to support Irish (I think!) and get the Sennheiser 300 for eur99. I think they make Sennheiser in Galway.

Small fellow just got turtle beach recon 70 and is a bit unhappy. The mic is picking up every bit of noise around him and amplifying it. Seems to be super sensitive. Is there anything that can be done about it?

These are replacing an xo one set which he loved but don’t seem to be available any more. What might have been a more equivalent replacement?

make sure the TV is on mute when headset plugged into joypad.
Plug out headset and plug it back in again during game
Then look at audio settings. Here's mine

No way. I have the mixer right up the other end. Don't want people in my party talking over the top of the game.

OK, now all the documentation from turtle beach is wrong and you photoshopped that’s screenshot or else, more than likely, I’m blind and don’t know what I’m doing.

I can’t find that audio option anywhere. See the options he has.

Xbox says it’s up to date and no update available.

What are the correct steps to change that option ?? System > General > ??????? > ????????

It's accessed via your guide button. Things have moved around a bit lately, but it should on your Profile and System tab, where your gamer tag is. Audio is just below the sign out option.

Thanks but the only options are the ones attached previously. Only place I see an audio option is under accessibility.

Anybody care to take a couple of screenshots to show an idiot what I’m doing wrong and what I should be doing and seeing.

Would really appreciate it.

Oh and btw, it’s an Xbox one, and what’s a guide button??? I’m assuming it the big button with the Xbox logo.

Yes, big white button with the Xbox logo. Press it, then use your LB/RB buttons to go to the tab with your gamertag entitled Profile and System. Audio will be on that tab, but only when you have a headset plugged in via the 3.5mm jack.

You’re a genius.

He hadn’t it plugged into controller directly but some turtle beach audio controller and then that was plugged into Xbox controller.

When plugged in directly the audio options appear.

I would highly recommend the HyperX Cloud X, designed for XBox One, great quality and very comfortable. Personally, I love the replacement ear covers, the textile ones, as I tend to get hot with the leather-like materials.

If you want them super-fast, they are 85 in argos. They go on sale at times for as low as 50 euro (e.g. in Smyths Toys).

Both my boys have the Turtle Beach headsets. (Recon 70 I think)

My heart is absolutely broken from trying to reconnect them. Either they dont work or just the mic doesnt work. I go into setting and go to devices and acessories and update ect..but it doesnt always work.

Any advice on how to fix this?

Is there any headset you could recommend that is really reliable?

They are trying to connect with friends and its very frustrating on them.

The HyperX mentioned in the post above yours would be very reliable. Just plug into the 3.5mm port on the xbox controller (assuming they have one) and away you go.

There is but for easy plug and play, and less to go wrong. Wired to the controller is the way to go.

If you go into messages and send soomeone a voice message will it record? I know some games like Fortnite are buggy with mics so sometimes they dont work.
