Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So we know #10 is a Boardsie, and I'll own up to being #4.
Is #1 amongst the Boardsie crew?
    Or are they keeping schtum?

I think there's a good chance Ireland will have the highest per capita microrotor watch ownership in the world when these get shipped.

...and maybe salmon leather straps too - after saying I won't do options for the first campaign (and I still won't I guess) - I will put out some stretch goals I think just to try and encourage things along...

if we get to >80k - blued screws for all!

if we get to >100k - salmon/Italian nubuck straps for all (who want it over the Horween)...

about to start working on these stretch goal presentations now.

^ from those goals people will be able to see what my "true" funding goals are at too - I think realistically I'm looking at hopefully another 100 backers from across the world to get on board which would be fantastic for Sólás' long term future - rest assured at current funding the watches will get made too without problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,257 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

Would you think about add-ons for that as well, or is it only worth your while to get more people committing to a watch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

To be honest it's only "worth" it to get more people on board - because the add-ons means that things turn into options - I'm trying to unify everything into one standard option so that the orders etc. can be streamlined (you can imagine if 28 people said they wanted blued screws and 37 said they wanted X strap) how messy the orders can quickly become - I do want to offer those options in the future (though perhaps no longer through Kickstarter but through my own portal (so KS aren't taking 8+% of all funds raised) - but under-promise/over-deliver is my aim here.

This way it's about promoting the watch to people - and everyone gets a win/win/win (existing backers: extra features for free, and you've let someone who might be interested in what Sólás/Starlight is about know about us, Sólás: I get funding for future models).

Forgive the stupid question, what are blued screws?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

update coming on the KS site very soon - here's an article I'll be referencing though:
    https://watchesbysjx.com/2015/02/20

for people who will be checking out the visually interesting movement on the back - having blued screws will be an extra touch of interest for those looking at the back.

A really lovely way of heat treating screws to bring out a blue colour.
    Quite a nice watchmaking skill.

To clarify though - they can also be chemically treated - it is more likely that Hangzhou will be going the chemical route (which is covered in the SJX article too) - but I will clarify.

Very true, effect and finish is pretty much the same tho.
If you add it as a stretch goal, I'm sure it'll be appreciated by the WIS and shown of whenever the chance arises ;)

Ha - you're definitely in too deep now then…

Soon enough you'll be debating the aesthetics of swan neck regulators vs free sprung balances (I'm a swan fan - free sprung is too hard to adjust without technical tools) :P

    And as of this evening we've hit 69k (there's a joke in there somewhere) - 80k seems very do-able in 14 days... 100k requires 2.2k (7 backers a day average - a not impossible task I think).

I'll keep hard at it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

Heh - a good reason why not to count chickens before they hatch - a week later we are at...69(.9) again.

I just want to check with people - people do realise that the rotor on the standard Starlight model will be featuring the cotes de geneve finishing as found here, right?:

All reviews of the Starlight have been ones which use this rotor and it is what is on my personally photographed pictures of the Starlight.

The studio photos of the Starlight used the cotes de arabesque rotor as we didn't have any other movement to hand (and 3 of the golden movements were in storage at the time) to meet the deadline to produce photos for the ABTW feature back in August. On the KS page now an early supporter of the Starlight is using terms like fraud now - which I would find disappointing (as well as legally incorrect) - and btw I actually do prefer the cotes de geneve as it allows for laser etching of the logo/finer details vs the pad printing on the circular grain (which can't be lasered).

I would have hoped that I've distributed enough photos/linked to reviews etc. that people can see that the standard version will be coming with the cotes de geneve finishing and laser etched logo.

On the other hand - I can understand if someone has only looked at the studio photos and absolutely nothing else in relation to Sólás and the Starlight why they would then think it would come with a cote de arabesque rotor and pad printed logo. I've put up a FAQ on the KS site (despite only being asked twice about it) - but do people think an update just addressing this is needed for backers?

It totally isn't me!!! Swear ;)
But yep, I think everyone here would have been well aware of the 5 (was it 5?) Special finish movements.
Hardly fraudulent, and in fairness it's still an unreal amount of watch for the money.

2! - one is out in the wild in the world as that charity prize and the other goes into the Sólás vaults... I could only get my hands on 3 of them in total and am keeping the 3rd movement as a backup in case the person who won the SoK edition has any issues in the future.

A pretty true "limited" edition there... and interestingly I think blued screws wouldn't have worked so well with the golden movement vs the standard silver one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭This is it

Maybe it's me not paying enough attention but I think adding the blue screws and different strap complicated thing's somewhat. Now with the rotor, I don't even know the difference to be honest, I'm not sure what the watch is coming with, what screws, strap, etc.
