Sorry if this has been done a thousand times, but I just read on some board that it was on as early as 1986. That can't be right. I'd have said 1989 at the earliest.

Definitely around 86, I went to Scratch Saturday in 91, and that show had been running a few years after Pajo. What was the Professor's name, knowitall?

Pajo used to be on before Action Station Saturday, which was most definately around the 86 mark.

It was definitely '86, the first episode was on the Saturday after we moved into our new house. I remember getting up thinking Anything Goes might be on but finding this Pajo guy about to start and watching it in the front room surrounded by boxes. It's a good thing I liked it because we didn't get cable in the new house for what felt like years.:(

I wrote to Pajo a few times and got sent back goodie bags each time.

Owen Roe, Rose Henderson, Raymond Keane and Jack Lynch were definitely involved in Pajo's Junkbox, and also the Fáilte Road Cafe, along with other people too obviously! There aren't any records of it at RTE, I'm pretty sure they have wiped all the tapes - such a pity!

when it first started they had a competition to win a board game called go for broke,you had to write a letter about yourself and send it in to them,i was the very first winner,i'd forgotten all about until i seen this thread,must have been my 15 minutes of fame.

Was just thinking about this show. Did it go through a few name changes? I know Pajo And The Salty Frog was the final spin off (I think) but was there something else in between Pajos Junkbox and that, I'm sure it had the Pogues Fiesta as the theme song.

I remember one episode where another puppet who might have been called Basher comes and threatens Pajo and tells him he's going to take over the show and call it Bashers Junkbox. Wasn't there a whole bunch of those sponge faced characters? The freaky old woman in a shawl one here and there were a few others I'm sure, there was a male puppet who would answer questions Jimmy Magee memory man style. I remember another puppet, not sure if it was Pajo or not, asking how many people were at such and such All Ireland final final in a certain year. When the memory man puppet gives the correct answer the other lad asks "now, what were their names?"

I think they did wipe it, remember reading that. Part of the cultural history of the country and the turnips in RTÉ tape over it!

I vaguely remember bits of it. The last episode wasn’t Pajo and his junk box loaded up on a forklift and brought off? Devastated I was!
Also loved the Professor guy. Remember another episode he was explaining about the peat bogs, he was superimposed on a hot air balloon across the midlands I seem to remember!!
