Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

virology questions

Hi, I'm doing an online virology course and I just have one or two questions if someone is able to answer them for me.
Is a "dead-end" host basically the same as a final host? If I'm talking about rabies vaccine for example, is man a final host?
Also in terms of sylvatic cycle, again would say bats be part of the sylvatic cycle of rabies?
Thanks very much-just can't seem to find the answers to these ones.

    Not quite.

A final host is one in which the pathogen reaches sexual maturity and can begin producing eggs to propagate the rest of their lineage. It is the final step before their whole life cycle begins again to infect other hosts.

A dead end host is a mistake. The organism infected the wrong species and now cannot propagate into newer hosts. Its lineage dies when it kills the host.

Yes, bats are part of the sylvatic cycle of rabies.
