Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Do 10,000km a year

    Which car makes most sense

    1. 2010 Prius with 150,000 miles for 6700 Euro.
    2. 2014 Nissan Leaf with 60,000 miles for 8800 Euro.

    Private sales.

How do you mean. As in it’s newer

I've never been in a leaf but have been in Prius taxis quite often. Most rattly, poorly made interior of any car I've ever been in. And horrible seats. Leaf couldn't be worse, but not sure if it's up to much either.
Apart from that, the leaf looks much better value from the 2 options you've given

I’d go with the leaf out of those two as well.

Can you install a home charger?
Can you do majority of your 10,000 miles on charge from your home charger?

    If so Leaf.
If not some other car. An old Prius, not for me at all

Yeah, could do majority on home charger.

Why don’t you like the Prius?

Would a 2010 Honda Civic iShift be an ok option?

    Any other comments?

The Prius isn't all it's cracked up to be....

Self charging, ha hilarious it's using a petrol engine to do this...

If you can the leaf or a Zoe may be the job for you.

You will save a fortune on maintenance and fuel costs.

So an economical petrol car could just be as good as a Prius. Suppose always have in my head that the Prius super economical, but other standard petrol cars may be just as good.

It's totally what driving style and types of traffic or no traffic and using just motorway for example.

City driving, stop and start and traffic is where the hybrids come in.

OP, you say your only doing 10k km per year, is super economy really that important for you? I think your focusing too much on that one aspect when it's not going to be the main cost of car ownership to you.

    Noted.
What car would you recommend with reasonable tax and running costs?
And not overly expensive to buy.

A new prius (2016 onwards) will average 64 mpg. The 2009 model 56mpg based on honest John.

Would you be able to or need to charge the Leaf when you go outside it's range?

Neither. You're not doing the milage for cost savings of the Leaf to outweigh the inconvenience.

You'd probably spend €1100 or so per year on fuel in a petrol @7.5l/100km.

While there's nothing wrong with the Prius, but it's old and high milage.

Right. In regard to the leaf, am I not making the cost savings just by buying one?

    What car would you suggest?
