    1.20 Cap du nord 2pts e/w 7/1 3rd 11/2

    2.15 Velvet morn 10/1 2pts e/w 7th

I am going to keep my input on the days racing on this thread.

13.05 NAP - Book Of Gold "Book Of Gold won impressively at Warwick and gets an 8lb hike here. With so many of the Oliver Sherwood novices in great form, he is taken to follow up." 7/2

13.05 Book Of Gold "Book of Gold got into a wonderful rhythm over the fences at Warwick. It was hard to believe, after the promise he showed in bumpers, that this was the first win of his career. Up a fair 8lb for that, this thorough stayer who loves heavy ground is strongly fancied to follow up." S. Sherwood

13.35 NB - Hurricane Harvey "Hurricane Harvey battled on well to hold off his main market rival at Ludlow back in November. This is over a similar trip and a repeat performance should be good enough for him to complete the double." 6/4

13.35 Hurricane Harvey "Hurricane Harvey duly stepped up on earlier form to put away a decent Henderson novice at Ludlow. He has progressed again since and can follow up." Fergal O' Brien

13.50 Delire D'estruval "Delire D'Estruval didn't get the trip at Ascot but he's back on the course and distance where he won nicely before his break. Big chance." 4/1

14.00 Holme Abbey "Holme Abbey ran too free over a longer trip on hurdles debut so we've dropped him back. I still think he's a nice horse for the future and expect a better showing from him today." 25/1

14.15 Velvet Morn "Velvet Morn has been hindering her chances lately with slow starts. If she can get away alertly and find a good early position she would have a decent each-way chance. The odds are attractive enough." 10/1

14.35 Schiehallion Munro "Schiehallion Munro has already proved better over fences than hurdles. He is not favoured by today's race conditions but can make his chasing experience tell round Newcastle. I think we can beat the favourite." 6/4

14.50 Ship of The Fen "Ship Of The Fen has had a try over hurdles at Cheltenham since his latest run on the level at Newmarket in August when he was a creditable third off today's mark. He has had only one all-weather run but if he copes with the surface he would have a good chance in an open-looking race." 11/1

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,268 ✭✭✭del roy

    Bank -29pts

Although Velvet morn started slowly, he was up with them 2 furlongs out and finished 7th beaten about 5L.
remarks in sportinglife are a little harsh on the horse considering the jockey did fook all in the last two furlongs to indicate to the horse he wanted it too go forward. Will give him another chance maybe in a smaller field with one or two front runners in it.

-29pts, will be an uphill struggle but onwards and upwards.

    Plumpton tomorrow

    Sussex National 2.40pm....weststreet 2pts e/w 20/1 boyles 4 places

The ground may not be soft enough for Weststreet as he is a mudlover who just stays all day and at 20s I will take the chance on him. Weststreet has only raced at Plumpton once before when a staying on 3rd in a 3m2f handicap chase.

His results in the 12 chases he ran in is two wins, two 2nds and two 3rds.

Stable jockey who has ridden him 4 from the fives times he has won, is back on tomorrow. The stables only runner at the meeting.

He last ran on the 08/12/2019 when pulled up here is what the trainer said about his chances that day

"Weststreet ran okay on his reappearance at Carlisle last month, he has improved for that run not so much in fitness but he’s sharper. He had two years off with a tendon injury but returned last season better than ever. He is a thorough stayer, usually jumps well and loves soft to heavy ground. Decent chance with conditions in his favour."

Three weeks ago in the weekender stable tour Sherwood said

I have always thought alot about this horse but it has taken me four years to work out how far he wants. H ecame into his own when we stepped him to 4m at Kelso and then followed up in the marathon at Perth.
We then send him to Kelso for the borders national where I expected a big run however he was hampered by a faller which put him on the back foot and he could never get into it. He is an out and out stayer and a proper soft ground horse.

and this from the ATR stable tour

WESTSTREET – "Any staying chase over 3m4f will be the plan for this gelding , very much improving horse from last year and would like the ground the softer the better.

    20/1 JUST TOO BIG.

14.40 NAP - Weststreet "Weststreet was brought almost to a halt halfway round at Kelso and couldn't get going again. He is probably twice the price he should be as a result and while not the most consistent, appeals as a value bet with trip and ground to his liking."

" Weststreet needed his first outing of the season and he was then nearly brought down last time out at Hexham. The ground cannot be soft enough for Weststreet - he’s a typical Westerner - and he needs an extreme test of stamina, winning over four miles last season. He’s a horse that does nothing in front so he needs holding up which obviously can lead to traffic issues at times, as was the case last time out."

    4.15 Sarasota 2pts e/w 15/2 powers 4 places

this one is a bit of a drifter over night however I can't let it go now, very easy ride on him last time where he finished 5th in a class 6, 0-60 handicap.
Didn't look like the jockey was too interested in winning, horse was 66/1 and jockey tapped it once with the whip beaten 2 1/2 L.

Runs in a 0-55 handicap today if its "off" surely has to be in the shake up.

For anyone interested below are a few "tips/selections from sites Jerry is in.

    PRICEWISE EXTRA

    Chesptow 4.00
    4.00 Chepstow
    1pt win at 9-2 generally

Jaisalmer’s two wins, both of which came at around this time of year, were achieved on ground officially described as heavy.

A peak mark of 132 subsequently proved beyond him, and it has taken a long time for his rating to come down.

However, he should be able to do some damage off today’s 113, particularly on ground he loves and at a track which will suit his front-running style.

I liked the way Jaisalmer stuck to his task for third after being headed by Maypole Class on his first start since wind surgery at Lingfield last month.

Maypole Class ran a blinder to finish second to the 130-rated Sir Ivan at Wincanton on Saturday - ten lengths clear of the third - and Jaisalmer should strip fitter for that reappearance.

Morning favourite Woulduadamandeveit, who has already attracted considerable support, bled when backed off the boards at Uttoxeter last March.

14.25 NAP - Ector "Ector missed a potential winning opportunity when pulled out of a race due to deteriorating conditions the other day. He remains on a mark of 79 - almost impossible to get any lower! - after a much-improved showing at Ffos Las last time and he can take advantage of the lumps of weight he gets from the principals."

15.45 Castle Rushen "We think the world of Castle Rushen and when we take him home tonight he'll still be a lovely horse whatever the result. Obviously you have to take note of a Gordon Elliott runner, but our horse goes nicely and we hope there will be plenty of wins from him over the coming years, hopefully starting today."

4.55 NB - King Erik "Ben Pauling's nicer horses are starting to appear now following a return to health for most of the string after a worrying spell before December. King Erik is highly regarded and fancied to make a winning start over hurdles by his talented trainer."

no bets today but some views from trainers below

13.45 Carrolls Milan "Carrolls Milan hasn't run for some time but while she's so tough and hardy, it could just make a difference between her winning and being placed. She will be bang there on how she's been working."

14.15 Lisdoonvarna Lad "Lisdoonvarna Lad is back over fences after a good run when second in a three-mile hurdle at Wetherby. This is a drop in grade for him and the race should suit him ideally. Big chance."

15.45 Miss Austen "Miss Austen needed some time off after her promising debut run at Taunton, with the sort of normal minor stress fracture that young jumping horses tend to get. She's fine now and while I'm not sure how much she's improved, she ought to be the one they have to beat."

    other snippets

15.55 NAP - Maridadi "Maridadi flew home in the closing stages to finish third at Newbury. That pace and a Flat-race pedigree coupled with Hughie Morrison's current form should make for a winning nap."

13.30 NB - Sammy Bill "We've been with Sammy Bill for both chase wins and will not desert him, just moving to next best from nap. Great prospect who already won round here."

13.30 Gowiththeflow "Gowitheflow got tired at Newbury but will have come on for the run. Track and ground should both suit him and we expect a much-improved effort today."

14.35 Shaffire "Last time out when coming with a run Shaffire was unfortunately pushed very wide but stayed on gamely to finish fourth. She seems to be thriving off her work and racing so hopefully she can run a big race back in a handicap against the fillies."

16.00 Foillan "Foillan goes nicely at home. There's no racecourse form to go on in this race and I suspect he might be at a better price than he should. He could run into a place."

Really decent course form from this filly, a course and distance winner, also a second in class 6 handicaps and third place last time out in a class 5, 0-70 handicap. The first and second in the race were rated 69.
Todays race is a 0-65 handicap with the top weight rated 66, the new BHA rules let horses rated 66 squeeze into 0-65 handicaps.
Lets start with the jockey Ben Curtis. His record on the horse is raced 4 times, 1 winner, 2nd and two unplaced efforts. He has 25% win record and 50% place record on this filly. Ben’s record at Chelmsford is 123 rides 19 winners 15% strike rate and 20 placed. Combining the win and place rides Ben has a 31% chance on his horse being placed. Ben’s record riding for the trainer is 52 rides, 9 winners and 9 placed, again winner and placed horses combined gives us a staggering 34%.
The stats for the trainer at first glance 36 runners and only 3 winners, 6 placed 25% strike place rate. However when you delve deeper he is 3 from 8 when horse is dropped in class which is the case today.
